    Two Day Brew

I've never heard of a mashing overnight...The longest I've ever mashed is a little over 60 minutes. Too long of mash time I believe brings out grain tannins you don't want. Also, if you don't start your boil until the next day, your wort temp will drop to levels where it would easily harbor...

What do you watch. I don't watch much TV, but here are the 3 I never miss. 1. Rescue Me 2. Laguna Beach... I know, don't laugh :cross: 4. Dog the Bounty Hunter:rockin:

    step ladder for sparging?

SWEET! That's me in picture. It is indeed a painting step ladder from Lowes, about $45 if I recall. It works awesome for the 3-tier brewery, and I hang it back on the wall when finished it takes up no space. :mug: You can check out my whole setup in my gallery.

Yes, I love to buy a 6 pack of a different beer every couple days during the summer. Lately, been Goose Island Honker's Ale and Sierra Nevada

How clear should your runnings be?

Near the end of your scheduled mash, draw a sample from the mash to test the starch conversion. Make sure you only have wort, no grain bits. Drop a drop of iodine on the sample your drew. If the sample turns black, there is still starch present (continue to mash) if the sample stays orange...

    Iodophor vs. Iodine

Is iodophor different than Iodine? Can my kegs be sanitized with iodine? I am trying to save myself the 20 mile trip to the HBS, if I can pick up iodine at the local Walgreens. Who knows, maybe Walgreens would have iodophor? I was there at the HBS today and got my grain bill for this...

My Latest Project - Walk-in Cooler

Wow, a walk in cooler! Very cool. Just curious, do you keep so much beer on hand that a dedicated beer fridge is too small? It will be a great day when I have so much beer I need a walk in cooler at home. :drunk: My wife will never let that happen...

    Wheats really do stink!

They do stink a little in primary, but ummmm they taste so good when done. Did you have your primary sealed tightly? It really shouldn't stink up the room where it is kept...

Intro and Question on ingredient kit

I think it would be more of a pain to screw on all the tops as opposed to crimping bottle caps. Also, I would want my final product coming out of glass as opposed to plastic, JMO.

    What to do? Kegging Question.

That's what I thought as I was buying $100 worth of three way CO2 convertor, hoses, CO2 and beer connectors and such, but was too polite to question the hose length. Anyway, I'm gonna go back to HBS and exchange for the 5' setup The frustrating part is I knew I needed longer hose, but I asked...

    What to do? Kegging Question.

Jason, do you drink a lot of New Glarus? Every time I get up to Wisconsin I pick up a few cases. The raspberry and cherry tart is incredible! I'm also diggin' your oval homebrew stickers!! I will just carb through the normal carb connect for a week. Thanks guys.

    What to do? Kegging Question.

Thanks, John, very thorough reply! Taken from one of the links you provided: http://www.homebrew.com/articles/article12018101.shtml The amount of CO2 that will be absorbed...Generally ales tend to be carbonated at the lower end, 1.9 to around 2.3; most German style lagers at around 2.4 to...

    What to do? Kegging Question.

I am kegging a Honey Wheat next Friday. Should I force carb at 30 psi for 3 days...or carb at 10 psi (closer to serving psi) for a week before drinking? I've heard different things. What do you guys do? There are alot of ways to skin a cat, so I appreciate all the advice and why it works for...
