What do you do with your spent grains?

How about a variation of smata67's procedure. I let the grains cool, dump in a contractor bag, place the bag in a suitable box of the cardboard persuasion, wrap it shut with duct packing tape and subsequently toss it in the oversized green roll out garbage bin. Works quite well. I bet...

What do you do with your spent grains?

I put mine in my compost heap. The trick is to have a fair amount of other yard scraps (grass clippings, leaves, etc.) and then you must turn the grains into the soil to get them to break down. I used to do it by hand, now I have a small tiller that I run in my compost heap about once a month or...

    Help!

Did you make a starter? What was the date on the yeast. Do you know your starting gravity or just that it was 1.062 before you diluted it? Any yeast nutrient (I always add when using liquid yeast)? I would just wait it out, I wait at least 24 hours before taking any action. There isn't a lot of...

Recommendation for a beer portfolio in a microbrewery?

NEIPA stands for New England or North East IPA - The term IPA was used because it's so popular. These beers use even more hops than a traditional IPA, but not in the boil but rather in whirlpool and dry hopping. These beers should have an aroma that hits you before the glass gets to your lips...

How to identify specs of a circuit

There should be a number on the handle of the circuit breaker itself. Since this is a 240 v it will be 2 joined together. Just google 240 v circuit breaker for photos

    How much honey to add

I don't think you will have any appreciable honey flavors last through fermentation, but it's not uncommon to add at the end of the boil - I think a half pound for a one gallon batch would be a good starting point. They only way that I have heard of someone achieving a honey flavor was by using...

    Cordless Drill Preference

For milling grain you want slow speed and lots of torque. That is not a combination available in cordless drills. IMO, you really want a corded slow speed drill for milling grains - I picked up one from Harbor Freight, and returned it since it didn't have a trigger lock. I went with this one...

Drill scrubber attachment to clean a keggle?

One of the many products is called Drill Brush has many brushes and scrubbing disks with different aggressiveness. I have a set, but never used it on my brewing equipment. It really depends on the chore if it's worth digging it out. I've not had much of an issue with a little hot water and PBW.

Local shop did not have Munich DME, only LME. How will this change my beer?

I don't think it's a large difference, but worth noting. I think the best advice I can give is to take notes on brew day, fermentation and kegging/bottling so you can figure out (and remember) what works (and didn't) for you and your setup. Kegs are great for keeping oxygen out, I think it's a...

Local shop did not have Munich DME, only LME. How will this change my beer?

Some thoughts. Increasing the Munich by 3x and reducing the Pale, it will end up much darker beer, no longer pale, I would guess a dark amber. I would either try to use half of the Munich LME and save half for later, or add it all, and keep all the pale too. That will increase the ABV, but not...

    Airlock problems

Just a note that it's better to use alcohol (I use cheap vodka) or sanitizer in the airlock to prevent stuff from growing in your airlock.

Why need to sanitize for secondary?

Everything that your wort (or beer) comes in contact with when it is below 180 degrees F needs to be sanitized.
