    First brew day!

You malted it your self, thats awsome, how did you do it?

    I can finaly RDWHAHB!

Its been six long weeks but as of today I'm finaly drinking beer I brewed myself. You guys were right (but you already knew that didn't you), drinking a beer you made yourself is 1000 times better than what you can buy. The best part, my second batch has been in primary for three weeks now. Next...

Your brewing and drinking miller lite?

    Second brew... first blow out.

I have about six weeks worth of beer brewing knowledge which means I know enough to be dangerous to myself and those around me. That said, I think the consenses will be you need a blow off tube. Remove you air lock, stick tubbing, sanitized I'm sure, into your bubbler hole in the top of the...

    I hate you guys/gals.

At this point yes. But it's conditioning right now.

    I hate you guys/gals.

    I love this place.

    I hate you guys/gals.

Prior to expanding my beer knowledge (much thanks to HBT members) I purchased on average two 12 packs a week. Yes, its BMC, Amber Bock, and it cost me $24 a week. I just spent $20 on four pints. An English ale, a doppelbock, a pale ale and a double chocolate stout. Luckly, SWIMO (is mostly) has...

How much did you spend on homebrewing last year?

I, as a few others here spent nothing on brewing last year, nor did we have homebrew. Doesn't that make us in worse shape than the rest of ya. I've been brewing for four weeks, I'm $297.39 including two 5g batches which are fermenting or conditioning right now.

Home Brewing Research Project – Short Survey (chance to win FREE beer!)

Fashionably late, but I’m in too. I hereby invoke the “Never even heard of Pliny before this post” clause. So pick me, five times, because every one knows you need more than one to truly appreciate a good beer

    Bottle and brew.

Bottled is an American Wheat, fermenting is a london porter. Yummy...

    Bottle and brew.

I brewed my first batch on March 7. I decided too bottle today. I know, I know, longer on the yeast would have been better. But this is my first batch and I currently have the patience of a first batch brewer. It occurred to me yesterday that if I bottled today my fv would just sit there...

    Partial Mash steep time

It was extract with specialty. I split the diffrence in time between what the LHBS' instructions and what I've seen here. Nonetheless, it's done now and I had a good time doing it. Thank you for all your input.

    Partial Mash steep time

it is a porter, so shorter time at 160°

    Partial Mash steep time

Doing my first partial mash today. LHBS instructions say steep for 15-30 mins. I thought you steeped for 1 hour, remove grains and boil for one hour adding hops per schedule? What do you guys/gals do?

    Noob's pointless post 1

Thats it, that how you convience the wife. "If I had a kegarator, I wouldn't have all these bottles."

    Noob's pointless post 1

I had such a noob moment last weekend I thought I’d share it. Though I’m sure I’m not the first one to experience this. I went to a friend’s house for a party this weekend. There were several of us drinking beer. Finishing one, I went to the kitchen and put my bottle in the recycle area...

How does a cooler mash tun work?

Gold...I've been a fan of your posts so far but this seems a little harsh. Ham didn't say "do it this way" he said "I do it this way." I think appoligies are in order.

    So what's the real cost?

I think you guys and gals are failing to acknowledge a key element. You brew because you love it or at least gravitate toward it. It’s a hobby (that results in beer, which we shall return to later). Imagine if you will that you are a golfer (no offence intended to golfing brewers). You buy...

what was your most dumb move in brewing?

^I think this was the best so far. My biggest so far (this is my first batch) was not checking temprature prior to pitching. That was at 4PM and I was bubbling when I woke up the next morning so I guess all is well. It's still in the primary, so the result is yet to be seen.
