    Where to dispose of pulp?

Yeast are decomposers. They help your compost organisms do their composting thing. I’m pretty certain it adds nitrogen (it may be beer that adds nitrogen so don’t hold me to that) but either way, you are just adding more organisms to break your compost down more efficiently, assuming it’s still...

Beer Geek Breakfast Stout too roasty? can you offset this?

Yeah, I didn’t realize it until after I brewed it. I’m still figuring out all the malts and I had my apprehensions but stuck with the recipe, which apparently is excellent. I’m in experimentation mode with recipes etc as I learn how they all operate and taste so it’s not catastrophic. I just got...

Does Honey Malt Belong in an IPA

I did a Honey Rye ale recently and it was aweme. I think it was upwards of 8-10% (off the top of my head) and it didn't mess it up at all. So far, it's been everyone's favourite too. I used enough hops to hint at an IPA style but I really don't like anything super hoppy. But it gave the...

    Warm Fermented Lager Thread

I ended up pitching it. I waited until the abosolute last minute. We will see. I think my thermometer temp was off so I may have actually pitched it at the right temp, but to be honest I have no idea. I can't get any of my thermometers to line up. lol If my tilt is right, it was pitched at 67...

Beer Geek Breakfast Stout too roasty? can you offset this?

Interesting. I think the pH was 5.12 so I will keep that in mind

Beer Geek Breakfast Stout too roasty? can you offset this?

Thanks. I was reading that pale chocolate lends that burnt flavour more so I tried to stick with the recipe but used chocolate malt. But it's still harsh. I am intrigued by this recipe however so I am curious to play with it. If I had realized how easily "too much" can occur with chocolate I...

Beer Geek Breakfast Stout too roasty? can you offset this?

For some reason this didn't occur to me until after I brewed. But then again this is how experience helps. it just has a harsh burnt after taste that I am not super impressed with. But I am only going to move ~1 gal and experiment with it. The rest I will let it do it's think and see how it...

Beer Geek Breakfast Stout too roasty? can you offset this?

That has been one of my recent lessons. This sent me down a thought process that I was intrigued by and couldn't really find information online that answered any of my curiosities. I am growing out of my noob tendencies of panicking and playing with stuff. I was reading that most people feel...

Beer Geek Breakfast Stout too roasty? can you offset this?

I came across a beer kit for Mikkeler's Beer Geek Breakfast Stout and the reviews were pretty good. This sent me down a rabbit hole and it appears people raving about it. So naturally, I found a recipe (see below) and brewed it this weekend. Against my better judgement I didn't tame the roasted...

    "mashing" sweet potatoes

What did you do with the water? I’m guessing you could throw it in a stout or something?

    Warm Fermented Lager Thread

I just brewed a vienna lager and I am using s-23. I having dinner plans and I thought it would cool down quicker. It didn't. Its currently sitting around 70F and I am suppposed to leave the house in 20 min. Do I wait it out and potentially have the wort too cold by the time I get back or pitch...

Best grain bill for a authentic Kolsch

I even bought beer like this. I always have a few ciders, multiple types of wine, and numerous beers on hand. I can't drink the same thing for too long without tiring of it. The problem then is when I hit on a recipe, it's gone so quickly. I am expanding my keezer now to accomodate five taps. I...

    Dry Belgian Wit yeast

I’ve used Safale WB-06. It was the closest dry yeast at my LHBS and it worked out well. Lots of compliments from friends on my wit. In a pinch, it could work too. My wife hates Belgium beers and she is not a fan so I’d say it’s a successful Belgium beer lol

Best grain bill for a authentic Kolsch

Ha. I like to have so many different types of beer on hand I’d have a pickled liver if I brewed that much beer each time

Best grain bill for a authentic Kolsch

Thanks for the response. Ha! Yes this is the problem with small batch brewing. I always try to keep a couple bottles but it gets hard when you get thirsty!

Best grain bill for a authentic Kolsch

Well, here’s the final products. 2-Row on left, Pilsner base on right. Slight colour difference in the two row but almost not noticeable. As expected, I like the two-row better. Off the top of my head, my process was nearly identical for both. Obviously all hops, yeast etc were exactly the same...

Which is a better deal? Corona mill or Cereal Killer?

I was doing some research on the Cereal Killer and I found two links for it, but it just sends me to the Hullwrecker. Is this the same grain mill?

Can/should you adjust the gravity after fermentation?

I just bought a refractometer, but haven't used it yet. So far I have only used my hydrometer. I don't use the Spike solo for all my brews. Only when I want a bigger batch of something, or experiment with smaller batches of the same wort. I have a spike conical that I use to ferment those...

What is the best all-around salt additions for Distilled water

That's the point I am at. Doing something several times and referring back to the writing on a regular basis. Slowly the stuff is sinking in, but there is also a lot of subjective or contradictory information that either confuses me or makes me doubt what I thought to be accurate for my brewing...
