Cleaning a fermentation bucket after a lacto infection?

If it's new and you knew to avoid scratches, I think you may have a good chance. Sanitize real real good and make a small, cheap brew, perhaps keeping it in primary a little longer than you normally might just to see, and perhaps bottled into the safety of plastic soda bottles.

Cleaning a fermentation bucket after a lacto infection?

With plastic, it will typically develop micro scratches that help harbor microbes and make some infections extra hard to eradicate. It's also good to refresh an old bucket from time to time. I suggest a new bucket. Personally if I were to sanitize, I would hit something alkaline first, then...

Make a beer with cider yeast?

Have you ever used cider yeast for beer? If so, how did it go? Pardon the silly question, I only have cider yeast on hand at the moment, and a friend is in town who wants to learn a bit about brewing. We are sort of improvising on a pale wheat ale. There's a winter storm here as well...

    Surly Grindcore clone attempt

I like your cold steeping method, it's something I've only just encountered recently. How do you like the results from that method? And thanks for sharing!

    Storing bottles with sanitizer inside?

I can agree with all that. No moisture is ideal. In the back of mind im thinking that if star san were to lose its pH level, it would then be moisture and nutrients, which concerns me, at least in theory.

    Storing bottles with sanitizer inside?

Thanks for all those replies. Space in my apartment is very tight, and I already take up counter space during brew day, so it's hard to take up space again to drip dry. No dishwasher where I live either. I was hoping to avoid it, but it sounds like having the bottles dry is best? I had been...

    Adding Hybiscus to Secondary

Where do you folks buy hibiscus from? Any good online sources besides the odd latino grocer or tea house? I'm always on the lookout but it can be hard to find near me. I regularly make a hibiscus lemon and green tea cider. I've posted the recipe if you are interested. I do two or three...

    Great lakes Crushworthy clone

I just tried this citrus wheat ale, it's quite delicious! It tastes like a blank palette: no fermentation aroma, no aftertaste, no hop floral notes. Very easy to drink. 4% abv. I love the style. I found the brewers discussing the beer here: ====== ====== Notes for my future attempts: Low...

    Very simple brewer..

Laziness is the mother of efficiency, and it's doubly valuable in hobbies where gear is sold as the solution to every problem. Who has the space and $$ for a microbrewery anyway. Stay lazy my friends

Malt muncher 3 roller loves to rust

In my workshop, high humidity brings soft, feathery rust like a dust of flour evenly over surfaces. A spot of dark, thick rust means I need to see what pipe is dripping on my lathe or jointer from above. Something deposited water there, to my eyes. Could be rodents, or maybe some grain bits...

    Storing bottles with sanitizer inside?

Is it ok to clean a bottle with a cap (swing tops or plastic bottles), then spray a few blasts of Starsan, cap them, and store till next brew day? My thinking is that this is ok with a bottle of sanitizer, so why not with a beer bottle with a few ml of sanitizer too? Or do I need to dry all...

Hibiscus Green Tea Cider - Cheap easy fancy

I've also noticed the bad ginger these days! My wife demands we keep a healthy supply but it's been hard. I think you will like this. If you keep the same amount of hibiscus in 2gal you can get some deeper color and more sweet undertone of flavor from the flowers. My last one fermented cold...

    Oily/waxy film from orange peels?

That was one of my concerns, I tried flaked wheat for this recipe and I would love to get a fluffy head on this.

    Oily/waxy film from orange peels?

Thanks for those replies! It really was a "slick" of oil, I should have tasted it just to see if that suggested orange oil or shellac wax that I failed to wash off. Perhaps next time I can actually skim it off if the top. :)

    Oily/waxy film from orange peels?

Hello, Has anyone found that adding orange peel zest to the boil results in an oily film on the top of the fermenter? I'm curious if this is normal or if I did it wrong. I washed 1 Walmart navel orange with soap in hot water briefly. Then grated just the orange colored outer peel. 5 min boil...

    Help. Stuck Fermentation?

I just always put my refractometer reading into BrewKing after fermentation has begun. I suppose it's a small hassle but I can sample through the airlock, so it works great for me.
