Dunkel vs Hefe, #300 vs 3068

I am curious whether you guys do the regular homebrew pour, then swirl the yeast and pour on top with your hefes and dunkels? I saw that that is how you're "supposed" to pour a hefe and i'm assuming it's the same for a dunkel?

    Water profile -how to fix...

If I order a water report from Ward labs, do I need to know about Flouride or Iron? Seems like that's the only difference with the more expensive report. So are those two things worth the $10?

Help/input needed on my keg setup...

I was thinking about using an elbow shank, since the laundry chute isn't very deep. Would this work? Keg Beer Elbow Shank Assembly Then just the standard faucet. I'm thinking about having just one tap to start out, then adding a couple more down the road. I can do this with one co2 tank, right?

Help/input needed on my keg setup...

i'm reading that 8 feet of hose only holds 2 ounces of liquid. so would i really need cooled lines, or could i just insulate them?

Help/input needed on my keg setup...

Well i'm getting ready to get into kegging. I just had 15 gallons that were all ready to bottle around the same time, and I am running out of places to store all these bottles. I want to have 2 or three taps in my kitchen. I have a laundry chute with a door in my kitchen, and I want to mount...

Got a free bayou classic turkey fryer!!!

yeah, i just did a partial mash with a 3 gallon cooler i got from work, and i had fun doing it. I'm a hands-on type guy, so the more involved I am, the more I like it. Like I said, I already made a MLT from a 10 gallon cooler with a copper manifold, so I'm good to go. Can't wait!

Got a free bayou classic turkey fryer!!!

The cvs by my house was giving away a turkey fryer. It has been there for a while and I entered multiple times. It seemed like I was the only one entering, because the pad with the entry forms was still full. Well I went in there last night and it was gone. I asked the lady working "so I take...

Any worry about channeling when batch sparging?

Well the manifold is made to fit a 10 gallon cooler that I already have. I'd rather not make a second one. So if it doesn't fit, could I just use a grain bag or paint strainer inside the cooler and drain out the ball valve without using any kind of manifold? Or would it still clog just from the...

Any worry about channeling when batch sparging?

I'm planning to go all grain, so I already made a MLT from a 10 gallon home depot cooler with a copper manifold. I am thinking about grabbing a 2 or 3 gallon cooler from work for small AG batches and partial mashes in the kitchen until I get a burner and a larger brew pot. If my manifold fits in...

Easy Partial Mash Brewing (with pics)

Thanks for the great write up!! I'm piecing together parts to go all grain, but this will get me going in that direction. This will be a nice middle step from extract to all grain. I went to my LHBS yesterday and picked up everything I need for the dunkelweizen recipe you posted on the...

    Fastest fermentation?

eh, i took a hydrometer reading anyways. hasn't done a thing. there's a ton of crap on the bottom already though. shouldn't be the hops, i left most of those behind when i siphoned from my brewpot. Oh well. I guess this just goes to show I should stick with plastic buckets. Even the...

    Fastest fermentation?

I'm trying to finish off my Mr. Beer kits that I got as a gift. I made a batch of the west coast pale ale, and used a pound of light DME instead of the booster. I also added a half ounce of fuggle hop pellets at 60 minutes and another half ounce at 15. pitched a whole pack of safale us-05 yeast...

Tried my first 5 gallon batch last night...

I like to drink one at 1 week and one at 2 weeks, just to see how it is coming along. I'll resist the urge to drink more. I think I would feel dumb entering it into a contest more because of the fact that it was a kit, with everything pre-measured and put together for me, than the fact that...

    Cracked primary bucket

Even if he is indeed getting hosed on one bucket, many people will see the quality customer service and buy from AHS. Personally, I do my best to shop at the two local homebrew shops, and they are both pretty good. But if I can't find something at either one, I will definitely order from...

Tried my first 5 gallon batch last night...

It was a brewer's best American amber extract kit. I don't have the recipe here at work, so maybe I'll post it when I get home. But basically it was a can of amber LME, and bag of amber DME, 1 oz willamette hops at 60 minutes and another oz at 5 I think. Oh yeah, there were steeping grains too...

Mr Beer - Read all about it and ask questions

I'm going to use DME in my next batch, but was thinking about using the booster as well, to boost the ABV a bit. What can I expect with this? Will it still be cidery or with the addition of the DME will I be fine?
