    Light,medium or full

Depends on your desired mash temps. Light body is 149 or so and full is in the mid 150s. Use the appropriate mash type to fit the style your brewing. You can adjust each one if you need as well

    Favorite Cider Yeast?

Has anyone tried WLP005? Or any if the low attenuating English strains? I'm not as interested in the sky high ABV, instead I'd like preserve some sweetness and apple flavor. Also, considered a Brett cider. Anyone done this?

Please explain what I am doing wrong!

I agree. I think that's what may have caused this in the first place. The hops were great, but the upfront sweet was too much. I wanted a dry, hop forward beer with just a hint of sweetness. I considered possibly switching to a British base malt and doing away with any crystal. It's an idea. I...

Please explain what I am doing wrong!

It could be too much crystal. That was my first thought as well. I have been using RO water with a bit of gypsum and calcium added. I am brewing another batch this weekend and I am going to knock the crystal down to 0.75 lb crystal 20. Does anyone else use dextrose to dry out beer?

Please explain what I am doing wrong!

Ok, so I have been all grain brewing for about a year now. Most of the time I have great results and wind up happy. EXCEPT when it comes to ipas. They always seem to have a sweet taste ( faint) that fades to bitterness. It's not unpleasant, but by the numbers it shouldn't be there. Here's what...

Will this work, or was it waste of a starter? (And beer)

Maybe this is silly, but why would a lower gravity stater be better?

Will this work, or was it waste of a starter? (And beer)

So I was able to get two cans of heady topper this weekend. I wanted to culture some Conan for later brews. drank most, but then dumped the remainder into a 1 liter starter and stuck it on a stir plate. Will it work?

    American IPA Stone Ruination Clone

Good question! It's partially an experiment to see how dry hopping with the bittering hop compliments the aroma alongside the other late addition and aroma hops. Could be a mess, who knows?

    American IPA Stone Ruination Clone

I dry hopped with simcoe, magnum and Columbus, so I'll let you know.

Oh. That should have seemed obvious, but I guess it wasn't. Thanks Yooper!

    Specialty Grains Question

I use caravienne (around 25 srm), and a bit of German wheat, as well as a pound of clear candi syrup in my Saison. No crystal.

Nice! Thanks for taking some pictures! Luckily I had enough head space to avoid a major blow out.

Green Wolf Brewing. Opening a 2bbl brew house in Middleburgh in the fall. Right now, he is still a homebrewer, but he has some awesome plans.

Fair brew event went well. There were 3 brewers that came altogether, 2 homebrewers and one soon-to-be pro brewer. We had a lot of people stop by and ask questions. The homebrew contest had 13 entries and was a success, considering it was the first year. We are looking at doing it again next...

    Saison Cottage House Saison

Yes, that yeast worked really well. It was a fast starter and I think it tastes great. I did not let it go above 80 and started off cool during the initial phase of fermentation. Very nice yeast!

    How safe is hose water?

Sorry, poor explanation. Not just the worm clamp, but the actual repair connection to form a Male or female end to the hose. I've not found a stainless steel end yet.

    How safe is hose water?

Ok, so here's an additional question about hoses and fittings. Most of the worm clamp style fittings to create hoses from clear tubing all say that they brass that contains lead. Has anyone found a garden hose fitting that does not contain brass with lead in it? I'd like to build an inline...
