    Overactive yeast

Happened to me recently, using Wyeast 2565, and no aeration. When I woke up, 10 hrs into fermentation, I had a volcano. Lasted about a day and a half then settled down. I bottled it yesterday, lost about a gallon to blowoff. Your batch is fine. Remove the airlock and replace it with a...

    Homebrewing in public (Wisconsin)

There is a brew club in Rhinelander (BIER), and they have done many events where they brew in public, in the park, on the ice (frozen lake), I'm not sure when they pitched yeast. I know of another club in Wausau area that also does group brews, but I'm not sure about in public. Our group in...

    How much Torani Syrup?

I actually checked this today, I saw a root beer recipe that had only one cup of sugar but only 2.5 qts, and when I plugged it in to iBrewmaster, it calculated out to be 2.36% abv. Of course that is if you let it attenuate fully, that would be pretty dry I suppose. For grins, drop some...

Anyone else waiting for resultsfrom WI State Fair homebrew competition?

Bummer. It would be nice to know how many competitors there are in relation to the score. Judging being subjective means that 1 of 2 isn't the same as 1 of 12. Score plays the bigger part, but that's subjective too. Maybe I won't give a $hit any more about getting scored. I guess it really...

On the cover page, in the box with the score, it says ordinal position in flight. Mine says 1 of 12.

    Local Brewpub getting screwed...

If they can sell but not consume on premesis, then maybe growlers can sustain them till the argument is settled... Might get a bunch of support that way too.

Anyone else waiting for resultsfrom WI State Fair homebrew competition?

I'm pretty happy with the 36 score, and the red ribbon for 2nd place. There were 12 entries too, so there was some competition. Now to take thier suggestions to task and get the blue ribbon next year!

How often can you reuse plastic buckets as fermenters?

I got my bucket in '92 also, dragged it through 5 moves since then, still smells like hops, makes great beer, never had an infection.

Anyone else waiting for resultsfrom WI State Fair homebrew competition?

I submitted a dry stout. Second all grain batch, first entry in a competition, itching for the scoresheets. I normally am not too concerned with contests, however this time I got nothing but really good feedback on that beer, just had to submit it.

    Group Buy in Chicago #8

I saw Gamma lids at Menard's a week ago for about $7 each I think. Might be a touch higher in Chicagoland, but that's a pretty good price.

Darn, was looking forward to the Hellertau. I know this is the biggest buy EVAR, and it's not even done yet, but there was some rumbling earlier in the thread about a separate hops buy, is there any more thoughts about that? Where do I watch for something like that?

    Group Buy in Chicago #8

I saw another post about starting at 8 or 9 saturday. I'm a noob coming in from Madison Wi, grabbing 2 orders, 12 sacks plus some odds and ends. I get up early and plan to be there between 8 and 9 pending traffic, any advice on how to make it easy on everyone?

That's actually what I was wondering about, weekend, and an event like this probably being outside normal business hours. I got an itch now, plenty of grain and hops coming.....

    Group Buy in Chicago #8

Agreed. Hopefully it's not the case, but if some catastrophic event happened, no amount of PM's or emails will get a response. Plus, many suggestions only make managing the buy more work. Maybe there are software solutions, but that requires time and effort too. I very much appreciate the...
