    Some trub in my bottles.

I think I did rush the bottling a bit, was only about 10 days from brew day to bottle. I also adding keilosol(sp?) and chitosan to it about 5 hours before bottling. Thinking that might have been the killer, didn't give it enough time to settle after that.

    Some trub in my bottles.

So I bottled up a really hoppy pale ale Thursday, and it didn't seem to go poorly at all. I didn't see much trub come through the hose or anything, but after the bottles had sat for an hour, I have what looks like very large yeast flakes settling into the bottom of the bottles. There's a good...

    bottling after 10 days

I just did a really hoppy pale ale, 4 days in primary, then a week in secondary, bottled yesterday. I'm looking at my bottles and regreting the hell out of that call already. They've got double the amount of crap sitting in the bottom of the bottles that I normally have on a 3-4 week secondary...

    It's called homebrew not freebrew!

IO agree, so much, especially about the tech support. I called it a wrap on that a few years back. Can't stand fixing someones malware ridden Dell, only to have them call me back 5 months later and tell me their comp is broke and it must have been what I did to it when I fixed it :(

Brew House kit - WILD fermentation

I did one of those brew house kits about 2 months ago. It was a canadian blond ale. Was my very first brew actually. Came out good in some ways, bad in others. On the positive side, ease of use. It's like making a big jug of kool aid for the most part. Another positive note, was the finished...

    Existential Quandary

Well, if you're relly set on the cherry flavor, go buy some cherry cough syrup, and pour yourself a glass of porter. Add one oz of cherry cough syrup to a shot glass, and drop into said porter. Drink quickly! It will foam. I believe I've just invented a new drink I will call the 'Candyland Car...

Newbie here can someone help me

I would say you just had a long lag time. Could have been slightly older yeast if it was a kit. But in general a lag time up to 72 hours is within acceptable range I do believe. Since it's fermenting merily away now, I'd say RDWHAHB and grats on your first batch :)

    Hi from Halifax

Hey all, Started homebrewing on a whim and desire to have large amounts of beer available cheaply back in Sept. Well, now I have a problem, I've been introduced to about 500 things I want to try in brewing haha. Have my first ever brew, a porter in bottles, and drinking now, and my 2nd a...

Should I have maybe strained my wort?

Hi all, I made a really hoppy pale ale yesterday. 3 rather big hop additions throughout the boil. I didn't bother straining the wort before topping it up with water, and just tossed it into the carboy and let it go to work. Fermentation is coming along very nicely, but I have like, a hops...

Double IPA Furry Pengiun Double IPA

That is a really great looking beer. What awesome clarity, and an amazing color. I've been looking for something to try for my first AG and I think this may be it.

Worst Commercial Beer You've Ever Had?

Tis the pride of Nova Scotia! But to be honest, since I both quit smoking, and started brewing my own beer, I can't drink it anymore. A combination of being used to better craft brews, and regaining taste buds has exposed what a truely bad beer Keiths really is.

Worst Commercial Beer You've Ever Had?

Löwenbräu for sure. We called it the 8 packs 9th beer in high school. You'd get an 8 pack of Keiths, and 1 tallboy of Löwenbräu to drink when the 8 pack was gone. There was no way you could drink that before you had 8 other beer in you. It had an okay taste on your first sip, and okay when...

Kit instructions seem different from all advice?

Ahhh, okay that makes a lot of sense. I'll keep the current batch in primary for a a few days at stable FG and see if it makes a notable difference for me. Thanks for the advice all!

Kit instructions seem different from all advice?

But if I rack at that time into a secondary, isn't that still giving the yeast a chance to do it's cleanup? I thought that was the point of giving it a few weeks in secondary?

Kit instructions seem different from all advice?

I don't think it's pre hopped extract, it was hop pellets. I didn't even know there was pre hoped extract to be honest. I do think I'm gonna try the no secondary on the current batch, I skiped my bucket and just went direct to the carboy. Mostly because I find the carboy more pleasing to look...

    Need Some Help Picking Equipment?

I've been using a starter kit I got for about 100$ and it all works great. It's a very low cost hobby to enter into. A glass carboy, plastic bucket, airlock, some tube, a wine thief, racking cane, hydrometer and bottling wand are really all you need to get rolling. And I'd say more then one...

Kit instructions seem different from all advice?

Oh I def didn't follow the fermentation instructions. They recomended 3-5 days primary, 7-10 secondary, 2 weeks bottle conditioning and drink. I tend more towards secondary when it's ready, bottle when it's ready, a month minimum in the bottle. Hell I racked the porter after 2 days in primary...

other cleaning options other then pbw

I use a chlorine solution and just rinse it really well.

Kit instructions seem different from all advice?

Yeah that was what confused me, as both my porters, and my cascade hops pale ale both called for 30 minute boils. And almost 3 times the hops went into the pale ale as the porter. What really concerned me was when I noticed all the instruction sheets seem to be generic and the same for every kit...

Kit instructions seem different from all advice?

Hi guys, I started brewing a few months ago with extract kits, have a pair of porters under my belt and just racked a pale ale into secondary earlier tonight. In the intrest of learning more about the hobby, I've been reading a ton of reading on this forum and a few other spots. One thing I...
