    Grain crush - low efficiency

I might add some DME tomorrow or Weds. How much should I add?

    Grain crush - low efficiency

Yeah I'm going to pay a lot more attention to my grains in the future. Those were my targets but I was only a couple degrees over on my mash and right on for the sparge. First AG brew was an Apricot Blonde and it turned out great! Much better efficiency on that one. We brewed on Saturday...

    Grain crush - low efficiency

Yo! I brewed my 2nd AG beer this weekend (Pale Ale) and was super bummed with our efficiency. OG was 1.027 - well short of the 1.049 target. After reading how important grain crush is I think this was most likely the issue. I notice the grains seemed to be more together then previous brews...

    Brew using crawl space?

Hello - I plan on having a swamp cooler installed on my house later this summer but want to brew again soon. It's an oven in my house right now (4 days of 100+ degrees in Denver). I was in my crawl space yesterday doing some fun plumbing work and noticed it was nice and cool down there - and...

    Blonde beer kit

I'm about to bottle a Dry Dock Apricot Blonde Ale clone. You can get the kit (or recipe) from Northen Brewer. Not sure how good it'll be, but if it's anything like the original I'll be happy.

    Apricot Ale

I'm about a week away from bottling my first all grain brew - an apricot blonde ale. Used a 3 lb can of apricot puree 2 days after the start of fermentation and 4 ounces of extract at bottling. Also used cascade.

    First Imperial IPA

Sorry, I just saw your posts. Mine turned out pretty good and it did take about 3 weeks to carb up. Not quite what I was hoping for but I had a couple brew day "issues" that probably caused the off taste. You're right though, it's a big beer - you're feeling it after one! I'm planning on...

    What a nightmare!

Move my "Arm Hair" IPA to the secondary last night and I think I dodged the sour bullet! Definitely needs more time to condition and dry hop action but I think she'll be good. Thanks for talking me out of dumping it!!

    What a nightmare!

Thanks man, I'll try not stress too much about it! It's still bubbling so at least it'll have booze!

    What a nightmare!

Man, I hope your right! That's true, the expensive part is over might as well see how it turns out. Thanks for cheering me up a little!

    What a nightmare!

I've been using my bottling bucket to ferment and this morning I noticed it was slowly leaking (the spout seal wasn't tight enough). I was prepping my carboy to transfer the beer over and the small leak quickly turn in to a fast leak. It was either watch it pour down the sink or put my arm in...

    Need help!!

    Need help!!

Crap!! Brewed an IPA last night and I noticed (this morning) my bucket has a small leak at the spout seal. It's a small leak but need to do something. My wife suggested buying an arm length glove/bag sanitizing it and reaching in to tighten. Or should I transfer to my carboy then back to the...

    First Imperial IPA

Also, you will definately want to make a starter for the yeast. I've never done the yeast starter. The recipe called for 2 vials of the WLP001.

    First Imperial IPA

There's a brew store here in Denver called "Stomp them Grapes". They have them.

    First Imperial IPA

I don't have the gear for a 5g boil (I think my pot is 4g) so was planning on doing a 2-3 gallon boil. Will this change things? So would I add the Pilsen DME / bittering hops at 60 min, then amber LME and sugar at 30 mins.?

    First Imperial IPA

Thanks for the tips! Maybe another oz of Cascade or Simcoe for the dry hop? Also, do you recommend using a hop bag? Sorry, 1 more - the recipe called for 14 days in the secondary - would you dry hop that entire time or just 7 days? Again, I really appreciate your help!
