    recipe required for competition

And I'm assuming they do by his post. They may not actually see the recipe while they were judging. If they did, I would find that very odd and out of place leading to possible bias.

    recipe required for competition

But generally the judges don't see the recipe.. at least until they are scored anyway. That seems odd for them to want it for the judges to read while they were judging.

    Which Conical to buy?

I have one and yes they are from China. I ended up paying duty as they were not NAFTA like they would have been had they been made in the USA. Still I'm pleased with the quality and the look and function friendly unit from Stouts. They were a lot cheaper option to me vs the others and with...

    Dry yeast and starters

Ah, then you did well IMO. Using liquid yeast, I like to think a starter is always needed. Dry yeast to me, don't need a starter... just use more dry yeast....

    G'day From Austraya

Well they made beer, :D I'm making much better beer these days doing all grain. Temperature control is very important in beer making. The better control over it you have, the better beer you'll make. Take your time and have fun with it. You'll only get better with time. :mug:

    Dry yeast and starters

Although it isn't needed, a starter is OK if you follow simple rules.... A full pack of yeast is intended to ferment a 5 gallon batch of normal gravity ( <1060 SG ) so if you pitch less than that into a starter then you are growing the proper amount of yeast I would think. Any way you look at...

Water quality in the Faversham region UK

What is to say that the fine brewers of that beer don't alter their brewing water? The water you want to clone might not be the same as that used by the brewers.

The " I never would have gotten away with this when I was married" thread.

I have been married for over 34 years, and I don't tell my wife what to do and she don't tell me. But if I am expecting to invade the house with something, I'll ask first, as will she. I have never been disappointed... well at least as far as my poor memory will allow me to remember... ;) I...

    best beer you ever made!

Believe it or not, my best ever was a Festa kit beer called Czech Pilsner... was the absolute best beer I have ever tasted, let alone made. Now if you were to ask the best I have ever made myself then I would have to say a Helles I made last year would be the best. I won a gold for it last year...

    How to make Iceberg beer

Well if you ask your F-I-L about the time when the harvested ice was landed in Heart's Delight, I think you would know that they do get a large amount of ice. I got some of that ice myself and made my first iceberg beer with it. And I don't think that the production of their beer is a very...
