    Hi from England

Welcome - nice to have another Brit on board! Cheers.

    Help a friend with a Tripel !! :)

When I make a tripel I always add the candy sugar (Or I use Golden Syrup) directly into the fermenter once it’s gone about halfway through. I’ve heard this is better for yeast health - might be a misnomer - but either way it works fine. So I’d dissolve the candy sugar in as little boiled water...

Recommendation for a beer portfolio in a microbrewery?

Just before lockdown we were arranging a large scale brewing competition in our local Homebrew club (WEHomebrew.club) the format was brew one beer from the 9 boxes in the pic below and once someone had picked one it was gone. I always thought it’d make a good menu for a brewpub.

    Special B in a Doppelbock

If you do make it - one point to follow. The Carafa and Roast barley were only added at the end of the mash when I did a batch sparge. So you get some colour and only delicate flavours - not full on toast characteristics.

    Special B in a Doppelbock

Even better news - and really validating the use of Special B in a Bock - this beer won the Strong Lager Section and came 2nd overall in the Lager than life competition in the UK. Looking forward to the feedback sheets. https://competitions.londonamateurbrewers.co.uk/lagerthanlife/

moths in grain & wheat beer gone bad

I used to work in a factory that had moth issues and was in charge of pest control. This is what I know... The only sure fire way to get rid of SPI is dumping infested product, thoroughly cleaning the area and surrounding area so there’s no dust then treating with a residual pesticide. You...

It is indeed Banda Ache. They have Sharia law there so when you get a beer they serve it in a coffee mug so no one knows! You’re up Beermanpete.

    Slow leaks from Corny Kegs

Do you ‘grease’ the O-rings. I use petroleum jelly smeared on the big O-ring and get a better seal than without.

    Special B in a Doppelbock

So I realised I never updated. Made this aiming for a Doppelbock but due to an issue with my set up in BeerSmith it came in a relatively low OG. In the end I have a 1065 - 6.8% Bock. It tastes great - has cleared really well and has the dark fruit complex flavours I was looking for but with a...

    Smaller kettle options for BIAB

This is exactly what I do. Mash then do a 5L dunk sparge. I target the gravity at this point to be what I want post boil. Then after the boil I top up the hot wort with enough water to bring me back to my target gravity. beersmith has the capability to work all the calcs out with the dunk...

    Kettle jacket

No - I’ve had no issues at all. However if you use a gas burner then the heat going up the side of the Kettle would probably melt it.

    Kettle jacket

I have an electric kettle and it sometimes struggled to keep a rolling boil outside in the UK. So I used a camping roll Matt to make the insulation jacket as per the photo. I think it make it look like R2D2...
