    Solid vs Mesh sided Biabasket

Yes it is, but depends on you abilities and available tools. I built this one with SS sheet rolled around a 5 gallon steel pail to curve it, and silver soldered the overlap. Cut and formed a 400 mesh (IIRC) SS screen for the bottom over a round pc of plywood, then used a 1/8" dia SS rod formed...

Any brewers here that have lost their sense of smell?

Hmmm, big bold flavors have always worked for me too.

Any brewers here that have lost their sense of smell?

I've never been good at off flavors. At this point I really can no longer even distinguish between similar styles. Stouts and porters are still obvious by taste, but pale ales, most IPAs, and other 'lightly' flavored beers are all a wash. Only the super hoppy IPAs will come through a little. And...

Any brewers here that have lost their sense of smell?

I came to the realization late last year that I had some level of loss of smell, but it apparently was a gradual change and I have no idea when it started. I've been to a specialist, had an CAT scan, MRI, and endoscopy, but nothing was found in any of them. There are basically 4 things that...

What came in the mail for you today?

We got the travel portfolio for our Rhine River Cruise next month. Beer brewing is temporarily suspended....

Grilled goodness leftovers. Marinated beef, roasted potatoes, onions, peppers, summer squash and not appearing in this view, corn on the cob.

CO2 Tank Split (Not to a second Keg Though)

Remove your HIGH pressure gauge, install a Tee (rated for high pressure), reattach the gauge, and add a valve (rated for high pressure) that fits your Sodastream line.

    K Type Thermocoupler +/-

Clearly you are far more educated on thermocouples than I. Thanks for elaborating.

    18 oz bottles

Beware of some 500ml bottles. My brother drank copious amounts of Franziskaner some years ago and supplied me with many cases of bottles. These are NOT good with a wing capper! The edge that the capper catches on is too low and they were very difficult to cap. I bought a bench capper to solve...

    K Type Thermocoupler +/-

FYI, the wire color represents the type of material it is made of. Polarity is determined by the 2 wire types used, so you need to look up the type to know the polarity. Regarding what wire to use for connections, it really does matter, but it's been a long time since I looked at the details...

What I did for beer today

I day dreamed about having more time, and space, to brew....does that count?

Line Cleaning - Let's talk options

There's a lot of interesting and good information here, but a pretty tough crowd! I fall into the casual kegging category as I have no beer on tap more often than I do simply because I don't brew often enough. The use it and throw it away method would be no big deal for me, but I do clean my...

What did I cook this weekend.....

Most of the things I'm seeing here are soooo beyond my ability, and look amazing. It's a shame my tastes are vastly broader than my wife... I don't have any pictures to prove it, but I made my first smoked brisket yesterday. It took me 2 weeks of searching stores for a whole one (vs just the...

The Epic Journey of ThatVideoKid's Keezer

Sounds like a good deal, but I'd trash all the tubing. And maybe those hairy fittings too, they're pretty nasty looking.

    2016 Hop Growing Thread

That's a pretty unique leaf shape. Might be a clue as to what they are. I don't have a clue though.

    2016 Hop Growing Thread

Yeah, I'm talking a second set of side shoots that are crazy insane. The first set was a month ago. The cones on top are basically done and these new shoots are setting new burs. Almost like a second round of crazy growth. Mostly the 4th year plants.

    2016 Hop Growing Thread

As anyone in the east knows, we've been have some really hot weather so far this summer, but my hops seem to be loving it. In the last 2 weeks they have sprouted another set of side shoots all the way almost to the dirt, and even they are getting side shoots. New burs are popping out everywhere...

    Reusing starter?

I've used leftover yeast residue from starters to make mini starters to set aside for the next starter/brew day, and it works great. I generally just let my starter settle at room temp, decant and save the spent wort, then pitch. I then cold crash the spent wort and save the remaining yeast...

    6 AWG terminal for SSRs?

If your SSR has a square 'washer' with 2 bent down edges, like mine do, separate the wire strands in halves and make it into a 'fork terminal'. Worked great for me.
