Pumps for Brutus 809 or 815?

No problem at all, it was nice to see what it can do before I use it on brew day. And yes, I'm VERY happy I purchased it. I wouldn't hesitate to do it again. I see no problems with using this pump in a single tier system, that's exactly how I intend to use it actually. It pumps 4+ gallons a...

New bad lot of Nottingham yeast ???

I'm sure glad I seen this thread before I used 2 packs of Notty with the lot# in question. One of them has no air in it, as though it was improperly packaged. The other has a small amount of air as usual. When I first started reading this thread, I first thought I'd make a starter to be sure...

    Hello from Michigan

Welcome to the forum, I'm new here myself. If that first batch doesn't turn out as good as you'd hoped, immediately drink 5-6 more and it'll taste great! :) Actually, it's hard to brew a bad beer IME!

Utah is not a dry state.

Hey there MSweat, just joined myself! I love IPA!!! I have the grainbills for my next 4 (ten gallon) batches, an English IPA being one of them. An Irish Stout happens to be another along with a California Common (basement temps are almost there) and a Blonde Ale as well. Hoppy brewing!

Pumps for Brutus 809 or 815?

Ok, the results are in. Test 1: I put 1-2 gallons in my kettle on the ground, hooked the pump to the ball valve via 3' of 5/8" ID hose with 5' of the same hose on the output side of the pump. It pushed right around 4.5' vertical, give or take an inch. Test 2: I put 2 kettles on turkey...

March 809 BR 1/100 HP - Any Good?

Plastic, brass, bronze... I hear ya man. Er, I'm smelling what you're steppin' in! :D Plastic only [really] bothers me when it's heated. Or when it's made in China! Their idea of food grade is not the same as mine... Sadly, I still use buckets for primary, glass for secondary. I don't keg (yet)...

March 809 BR 1/100 HP - Any Good?

Mr. Spanks. That sounds dirty too! :) I didn't tie the name to yeast sex either, but it's funny nonetheless. Even more so now that I know what you mean by it! :mug: I think you are correct in that the only March pumps that are sold as hot wort pumps are the ones with plastic housings. They...

March 809 BR 1/100 HP - Any Good?

I have to respectfully disagree. It's commonly accepted that brass is not a problem, especially if you "pickle" it per John Palmer's instructions. He is a metallurgist by trade, longtime homebrewer, and author of course. He says that the small amount of lead in brass does not pose a health risk...

Pumps for Brutus 809 or 815?

Ah good point, I totally missed that. I haven't tested the head yet. The flow rate seems fine. The kitchen sink faucet can't keep up with it @ the same level. I'll check out how high I can push it tomorrow and post my results.

    coffee tasting beer

My guess is a porter or a stout. Head to your nearest "fancy beer store" and buy a few different bottles of both styles. That would be a great place to start.

    Sharpest Cheddar?

It's not cheddar but Sharp Pinconning cheese is one of the best cheeses I've ever had. I think it's an odd type of Colby actually. The mild is great as well. The real trick is finding it if you're not in the Midwest.

    Koreans have the coolest parties.

I went to a Korean wedding once, the reception was awesome. Great 5 course meal and all the Heineken you could drink. There must have been a dozen bottles of cognac being passed around at the reception and the "after party". First and only time I drank $100+ a bottle cognac. Super nice people.

Worst Commercial Beer You've Ever Had?

Miller Lite! It's frickin terrible. And I'm drinking it right now only to get the home draft mini keg and tap!!! They didn't have the Coors ones, not that it's much better.

    DIY Stir Plate

I've seen that type of stup but instead of 4 magnets, they used 1 of the flat rare earth magnets that are in computer hard drives.

Pumps for Brutus 809 or 815?

Actually, it has 3 wires that need to be stripped and connected to whatever you want. I ran it to a 3-way light switch and box then to a 10' outdoor extension cord (female end cut off) that Harbor Freight has on sale for $5. I have less than $10 into that setup including spade connectors (wanted...

    Hi there from Mid Michigan!

Ah yes, I know the area well. I went to the Willew Lounge @ 2 mile a couple weeks back. Good to hear you landed on you feet so quickly! My Dad works for Dow in Midland and thinks he can get me an interview, so my fingers are crossed. Thanks mmb! I'd love to go to Frankenmuth! If I can get...

    Hi there from Mid Michigan!

Thanks guys. I'm from Bay City actually. State Park area. And Standish too, once upon a time. Sure miss it up there. I'm up that way all the time as my friends and family are there. I'll move back that way when the housing market picks back up and I can sell my house without taking a loss. Until...
