Yeah, anything over 3.5% can only be sold in government stores. They are also relatively highly taxed and the tax rate depends on the alcohol content. I've never been to Norway but I understand they have a similar system.

I also agree it's all about the taste. But that goes both ways. If a delicious tasting beer is hazy I'm good with it. But if it's crappy tasting and hazy, I'm not going to like it just because it's hazy. And I think that might be what the OP is getting at -- beers being made to be intentionally...

If someone rather not drink beer at all then drink a good beer because it was made by an out of town brewer ... than yeah, that might be getting close to beer snob territory. Of course everyone is free to drink or not drink whatever they want.
