Atlantic Brew Supply/Raleigh Brewing Company Raleigh NC

Wanted to put in a good word for this place, I just ordered a couple of all-grain batches. They shipped it out within 24 hours and I got it two days later. I know a lot of places are struggling with on line orders and shipping right now so I thought this was really fast. You can get grains down...

    Hops ... does year matter?

I'm going to buy some hops in bulk for the first time. I've noticed a lot of places will have hops from the most recent year as well as several years before. The older ones are generally a bit cheaper. Are they just as good? How old would you go? Or is it a matter of certain harvest years...

    Remembering John Prine

Heard an interviewer once (Marc Maron maybe) ask him what he called his music, country, folk, what? "It's pretty good." He survived two different cancers ... stupid coronavirus.

I'm in it for the chicks.

Strange swing in had price difference

When crude goes up, gas price goes up overnight. When crude goes down, it takes a while for gas prices to go down. Weird, huh? Here, Costco regular gas is $1.35; Diesel is $2.30

    Brewing during COVID

A virus is not going to infect the beer. Some viruses (including coronavirus) can survive a while on inanimate surfaces so there would be a small chance that if you sneezed coronavirus onto a bottle then someone else comes along and handles the bottle, gets viable virus on their hands and then...

    Room Ventilation/Safety

The main concern would be CO2 and commercial breweries do have to be careful with this. So if you have a 10 barrel fermenter in your bathroom it would be a problem. But typical home brew batch sizes won't be an issue even in a small apartment.

    COVID-19/ Can't get a drink

Many bars around here (east Tennessee) are closing. Most of the small breweries have either reduced their tap room hours or are only doing to-go sales only. The closest one to me just opened 2 months ago and I'm worried they may not survive the financial hit if this drags on. I'm going to go get...

Where do you buy kegs from?

I use pin locks and have got them all from Kegconnection. Picked up two used ones 2 weeks ago for $30 each (on sale) and they were in excellent condition. I browse local criagislist now and then but have not found anything better.

    Interesting new email attachement scam

I think I got something like that that claimed it was from Target a while back. There was something similar claiming to be from Apple last year I think that got a bunch of folks. Yeah, her bookkeeper fell for a phishing scam and tried to wire the money to a bank in China. Fortunately her bank...

Strategy on bottling 8 oz of draft beer per day

Why would you ask such a thing? Pain, barbecue, sour cream and onion?... we gotta know what type of chips we're talking about here in order to answer.

Anyone have hip surgery? How did it work out?

Holy crap, Cabron, that sounds terrible. Hope you get better soon. If anyone is interested, the product is Monovisc, a form of hyaluronan. Fun fact ... it's made by fermentation, using bacteria not yeast.

Can you use king cobra 40oz bottles for bottling?

They won't work unless they are in a brown paper bag. You will also need a yard full of smack-talking relatives.

    Homebrew Con 2020 Nashville

Yeah, the website is pretty annoying. Some of the stuff reflects the 2020 (upcoming) schedule. But for other stuff -- for example, when you click on the educational sessions -- it takes you to last years schedule. It's making it hard for me to figure out if I want to arrive Thursday or Friday...

    Black cherry concentrate

Sorry, just noticed that your post said black berry while your title was black cherry. It was the black cherry I used. I've never used blackberry, but in general that tends to be a milder flavor than black cherry I think.

    Black cherry concentrate

These are hard to predict unless you have a specific recipe someone has tried. And it depends a lot on which specific concentrate you're using. I used the Amoretti brand and added 4 oz to a 5 gallon sour stout and it was about right for a mild flavor, which is what I wanted.
