How to proceed with old lager yeast

Read through all the threads I could find about underpitching lager yeast and couldn't quite find the answer I was looking for. I have an old (end of June) WLP838 vial for an Oktoberfest, I made a gallon starter for it but the strip of healthy yeast appears pretty thin and I know lagers need...

North Carolina Kegbot system - $150

I believe there's a way to update the board with a little wiring, etc. I haven't looked into it but there's fairly comprehensive how-to's on their website. $100 + shipping, should only be $5-6 as I believe I can fit it into a small flat rate box with USPS

Harvesting Yeast & Starting - for tomorrow?

Ok, took it right off the top in the carboy after letting it sit at an angle and then let that settle in a mason jar and poured that yeast into another jar. Ended up with 1/2-3/4 of a quart. Planning on leaving that at pitching temperature and then pitching half of it. Thanks for the help!

Harvesting Yeast & Starting - for tomorrow?

Thanks for replys, my OG is 1.055 so it looks like 1 quart of the yeast slurry will be more than enough. Seems like a starter is not even necessary then, just take the yeast out of the fridge when I start the brew day and it should be fine come time for pitch? Kind of an offshoot question...

Harvesting Yeast & Starting - for tomorrow?
