The Ole' Window AC - Glycol Chiller Build

Another stab at building a cheap Window-AC based Chiller. I snagged the Frigidaire Analog unit from the clearance section at Sears for 25.00 out the door... Add a 35 dollar cooler, a trusty STC-1000, and a aquarium wave generator and here it is. First, build the cart, to keep the whole unit...

Michigan 1600w Electric Element - Plug and Play

It has a standard PC Style recepticle, pre wired. So if you've got an old pc cord lying around thats what you need. As for using it as a heat stick, I wouldn't recommend it. That plug type isnt water proof, nor do I trust that the boot would keep out water in a submersed condition. Better...

Michigan 1600w Electric Element - Plug and Play

unfortunately shipping from michigan to california via any service takes all the value out of it. I'd still do it at 30, but can't take any more off for that reason. Cheers!

    How screwed is my lager?

Pitched at 80 f? Just keep chilling it down, I'm betting you'll have plenty of viable yeast despite the slightly higher than optimal pitching temps. While not particularly desirable, you're not likely to kill the little guys unless it was 120 F plus.

    Inkbird IPB-16 PID Controller Inquiry

I have noticed mine also shows these minor display fluctuations, more apparently so when I'm holding my sparge/mash temps prior to mashing in. Generally I set it around 165 to account for heat loss for mash, then 170 for sparge. I'll often observe the 2 degree rapid fluctuations while it is...

Michigan 1600w Electric Element - Plug and Play

Good question, I actually bought it to heat my HLT. If you were boiling, I'd expect it to behave very similar to my Robobrew which is also 1600w, and takes about 90 minutes from 40 degrees to 212 degrees. If you're starting from mash temperatures, I often have about 20 minutes of lead time for...

What happened to my beer?!? (With pictures)

I was surprised, a good mystery obviously interests the ole' HBT brewing crowd. Funny how some threads get a dozen replies and others die quickly! Hope it's a drinkable mistake.

What happened to my beer?!? (With pictures)

So, did you use one whole bottle of irish moss in this batch? That seems like a ton of trub for the primary, like the others have said. (Bottle example: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0064OEB4M/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20 )

1 dry yeast packet for 10 gals??

US-05 in many of my early 10g batches. Two satchets is minimum with no starter. My opinion.
