Who's Brewing this Weekend: Oct 5

Just finished brewing an all-grain Sam Adam's Boston Ale Clone from AHS...Hit all my numbers on the money thanks to Brewsmith and my new Barley Crusher. Finally, 76% eff. as opposed to crappy 62% with LHBS crush. Life is good!:rockin:

Why'd you pick the grain mill you did?

Silly question...I just received my Barley Crusher and it is beautiful. Why do the directions state to run half a pound of grain through the mill and throw it away if it is the first time the mill is used, or it has sat a while?

Why'd you pick the grain mill you did?

Hey BierMuncher...Did you adjust your mill, or is that a crush from the factory setting?

    Me & my BIG mouth!

I have testified in numerous bench and jury trials...sometimes a lot of fun, but most of the time a royal pain in the butt. I still receive jury questionaires, but luckily I can check an exemption!:rockin:

What temperature do your drink your HB?

38-42ish...I like my beer cold! By the time I finish the beer, it has warmed up nicely, so I guess I get the best of both worlds:)

    Re-Using A Yeast Cake - Question

On this topic...I have a yeast cake from a London Porter (British Ale Yeast) and I am thinking about throwing an Old Speckled Hen on top of the cake. Good idea, or bad idea? Somewhere I heard that you shouldn't pitch a lighter beer onto a darker beer's yeast cake.

    Over Carbed Keg

I think you may have an issue with the length of your beer line. I use about 5-6 feet of 3/16 line and set to 10-12 PSI. Once I vent the gas from force carbing, I never have a problem with foaming. Just an idea. Cheers, Shoopdog

how long was your longest brew day?

My first took a little over 6 hours, but had a little accident with burning myself...the second was 5 hours, the third with cleanup ended up a little over 4.5 hours. I'm getting there, now if I could only get that efficiency up...geesh.

    Irish moss

I've switched over to Whirlfloc...no more rehydrating, just toss it in with 15 min. left.

How much do you spend on homebrewing?

The obession, er...hobby, can get expensive at times. Thankfully, I can afford to spend the money on whatever items I may need within reason. Obviously, I am not going to purchase 20 gallon rigs, but my all grain set-up is all bought and I am not looking back. Nice way to spend a day, or a...

Cheap & Easy 10 Gallon Rubbermaid MLT Conversion

I originally made a 5 gallon version of the MLT, but Home Depot now has their 10 gallon Rubbermaid on sale for $40. I couldn't find them for less than $55, so I now am the proud owner of a 10 gallon MLT.:ban:

    Magic Beer

A lady walks into a rooftop bar and sees a really good-looking guy sitting at the bar by himself. She goes over and asks him what he is drinking. "Magic Beer," he says. She thinks he's a little crazy, so she walks around the bar, but after realizing that there is no one else worth...

    Insert Forum censorship here...

Man, I am sorry to hear about your crappy day. I bet the beer comes out fine and you will be able to laugh about your rotten brew day. All of us have had days where things just didn't go right. What keeps you coming back are the brew days that are smooth as butter, and the beer is great...

Well...I have ordered from them on several occasions without a problem, until the last order which was delayed by about a week due to a backorder. Their policy is to hold up the entire order ($155) even if one piece is out of stock. They didn't notify me of this minor delay until a week after...

    Austin Homebrew Recipes?

Just ordered the London Porter kit from AHS yesterday...Does AHS supply the full recipe with their kits, or is it just labels like "Base Grains, Speciality Grains, Bittering Hops"?
