Pump wort ~ 30 feet to fermenter?

A friend of mine gave me his spare 12.5 gallon conical fermenter. I brew in my carport, approx 30-40 ft away from my fermentation chamber. Would a chugger pump work to pump the wort from my brew setup to the fermenter? If so, what are you doing to get the wort out of the 30-40' of tubing...

Who is Brewing this 4th of July....or at least the weekend?

Opinions on BIAB with Top Up Water

I think this is exactly what I'm going to try for my first attempt at a 10 gallon batch this weekend. Thanks!!

Belgian Tripel Belgian Trippel (2006 World Beer Cup Gold Medal: Dragonmead Final Absolution clone)

My 2nd time brewing this. Unfortunately friends showed up early = started drinking too early in the brew day. Good news: hit pre-boil volume exactly. Bad news: Expected pre-boil gravity 1.072. Actual 1.052. WTF? Whatever - added a little over 2 lbs of DME....moving on Only when...

Opinions on BIAB with Top Up Water

Sounds like I'll have to stick with a pour over sparge. The largest container I have other than the keggle is a 6.5 gallon fermenting bucket.

Opinions on BIAB with Top Up Water

Thanks everyone for all of the input. For those of you who dunk sparge, how big of a vessel do you think I'd need for a 30+ # grain bill?

Opinions on BIAB with Top Up Water

10g would be WAY too small. I have a 15.5 gallon keggle. It's fantastic for 5 gallon batches....not so much for 10 gallon.

Opinions on BIAB with Top Up Water

Thanks Cider I did a lot of reading on biab.info when I got started. While I definitely prefer using full volume, it's unfortunately not an option without replacing my keggle if I want to move up to 10 gallon batches, so I'm considering options. Other thought is to do a double brew...

Opinions on BIAB with Top Up Water

A pour over sparge could work. Is the idea to heat the water to the 168 sparge temperature? I do typically squeeze the beg pretty well and have that factored into my grain absorption in beersmith.

Opinions on BIAB with Top Up Water

I'd like to get some opinions on doing a 10 gallone 1.093 OG beer biab using a keggle and top up water. According to beersmith, I could mash in with 11.6 gallons, leaving enough room in the keggle for the water and 33 lbs of grains. Grain weight isn't a problem, as a brew in my carport and...

    Don't Do That.

2nd go around brewing the Dragonmead Final Absolution Clone. Writing was on the wall for this batch earlier in the week when the second step of my starter overflowed out of the 2L flask. Don't Do That A friend showed up right as I lit the flame to heat up the mash water, so of course we...

    Simple Yeast Storage Procedure

Do you make a starter to "wake up" the yeast, or just pitch the slurry?

    Simple Yeast Storage Procedure

Thanks. Let me rephrase my starter question. How do you calculate how big of a starter you need to make to "wake up" the yeast. Is there a guideline for how big of a starter you need per billion (or 100 billion) yeast cells? I think I remember reading somewhere that you can overwhelm a...

    Simple Yeast Storage Procedure

After reading through the thread I have a couple of questions - sorry if I missed the answers somewhere in the 18 pages: 1. If I'm using Mr. Malty to calculate how many ml of a slurry to pitch, how do I determine the viability? Do I use the harvest date? I primarily used liquid yeast and do...

Moving from extract to all grain

Another BIAB'er here. I had been brewing outside, so already had a bayou burner. I happened upon a used keg on craigslist for $40. Total cost for converting the keg into a keggle was around $100 for the parts from bargainfittings.com, including a 3-piece valve, thermometer, dip tube and...

Serving higher carbed Belgian Tripel from balanced system

Adding something to the back of the shanks would be tough the way my system is build. Too hard to get to. Second regulator ordered from kegconnection and mixers ordered from amazon. In hindsight I should have ordered the two regulator system to start with, which was my plan. Local...

Serving higher carbed Belgian Tripel from balanced system

Awesome. Thanks! Without reading all 50 pages, just need to drop the exoxy mixer (or two) into the dip tube? No issues of not necessarily being food quality?
