    Aluminium pot, no seasoning

I would say as long as the wort came to a boil you kill any bacteria (which is the real bad guy for beer). The batch won't be ruined. There is a lot of debate of aluminium vs steel. In the end, there is no real good reason to use aluminium, aside from cheaper and lighter. Steel is for food...

    Keg Connection Problem (literally)

Keg Connection is a good company, as per their quick response. I'm pretty sure they pressure test so usually it's fine. The good news is that there are only a few parts to each disconnect. Absolute worst case, just replace the 5 or 6 little parts. But probably there isn't something set...

    Adding the Yeast Starter

    1) Give it a swirl, dump it in. Sure you can cold crash it and pour off the 'non-yeast' but whatever, just dump it in. 2) You can pretty much always put more yeast in. It's hard to over pitch. So if you spill half of your starter you can just direct pitch yeast into your fermeter.

How do you guys do this???

I'm up to 5 glass fermenters and 10 kegs. It just never ends. "Oh I need to brew this weekend, gotta move beer X to secondary.. hm, I'll just buy another keg to secondary in the keg!"

    Worst Piece of Beer Equiptment

Aeration stone. I had 4 kegs, and bought one for each keg to help carb my beer faster. I'd put hose on the air dip tube, and the stone on the end. And as long as the stone isn't clogged it probably does actually speed up carbing the keg. And the fun is also if the keg is under any pressure...

What's the most expensive beer you've seen or drank?

I got a 2oz sample glass of it at a bar for $25. It's worth it to say you've tried it as it's very different. You have to like sherry or port I'd say, it's not really beer IMHO. I would be upset if I spent the money to buy a bottle, I'm glad I tried it, I would not try it again though at that...

Question about hops and muslin grain bags

I use nylon bags for hops. They are a little more than the throw away bags but over time you save money. I have some bags that have been through over 50 brew days and they still work fine. I also had a few pop a hole in them after 30 brew days. Not too shabby! You can certainly skip using...

    Force Carbonating 3 Gallon Keg??

If you just completely want to play it safe, set it to your serving pressure (probably 10psi) and leave it for a week in your kegerator. It's won't over-carb, it will cold crash and clean up nicely, and there is no chance to mess it up. It's usually what I do, I also have 4 kegs on tap and room...

    Best digital thermometer

Awesome. I'm so glad I could help somebody. We probably went through 4 different cheap-o $10-$15 kitchen ones. We had one day where 2 gave us different readings (off by 20) so we boiled some water (since that is 212) and put them in to see which was right. One read 222 and the other was...

Great Responses From Friends about Beer!!

I like to hear: "Can I pay you to brew for my party?" "Wow, I've had homebrew before.. but this.. this taste.. how did you... it's got head, body, and flavor..?" Or just even their facial expression when you walk in with a growler.

Taking a recipe from 5 gal to 10 gal

Yep, I brew 5, 10, and 15 gallons. Just double and triple. I will say though use some common sense. I made a mistake of adding too much chocolate malt in a 15 gallon. The 5 called for 2oz (just for color really) so I figured for 15 I better just use close to a pound. My amber turned into a...

    Sanitization question

I would go and just use the Starsan. Don't fear the foam! The dishwasher should be fine for bottles, but.. I have no idea if bottles are 'dishwasher safe' I would think they would be OK but I would be afraid of having one break and then my wife destroying me.

    Beginner questions

If you really gotta be cheap, I would buy a glass carboy (or a plastic food grade fermenter) and make cider. You can get enough apple juice at Sam's Club for 5 gallons and some yeast for under $25 for 2 cases. It's really easy to do. Then you just need caps, and some bottles, and you can get...

    Kegged my cider

It should be OK. For the 2 batches of cider I've made I primary for many weeks until the gravity is doesn't move (like 1.008). Then I cold crash it by leaving it overnight on my porch, in the morning I put it into secondary with sulfites & sorbate and I just leave it out in the cold for a few...

    Beer Gas setup HELP

It's funny you ask. I don't know! I have 2 c02 tanks and 2 beer gas/nitro/draught tanks. That way I always have a spare if a tank kicks. Neither of my nitro tanks say what that % is, they are from Air Gas. I remember when got my first tank they told me it was 75%/25%, I can't imagine there...
