    single tier brutus (re)build

Thanks for the comments. Yeah, I am currently using a BBQ cover and its under a gazebo kind of thing as well. I got the stand for $200 with all the parts so I think it was a good deal and I could flip it for a lot more than that if ever wanted to.

    single tier brutus (re)build

Finally got the stand sanded down and put a coat of paint on it. Next step is to make some SS wind shields.

    single tier brutus (re)build

I managed to find a single tier stand for a very reasonable price and since I have no welding skills yet, I thought it might be a great rebuild project. The stand was built in the brutus 10 style but in really rough shape. It is made out of 2" steel and very heavy. The previous owner had...

Fg right on but brew tastes and smells sweet

Excellent and TY. I went back in and added the DME. That changed the IBU's to 20 which was still on the high range. I wonder if I am dealing with a yeast issue. I separated the wort into 2 5gallon batches. One is sweeter and the other seems ok. One of my smack packs was already partially...

Fg right on but brew tastes and smells sweet

I fermented it at 66 degrees which was right in the middle of the optimum temp range for the yeast.

Fg right on but brew tastes and smells sweet

Since it was basically a 2 x 5 gallon recipe "kit" I only had the 2 1oz package of hops. Is there a calculator for that or could beersmith tell me how much to adjust that? Compared to the style guide comparison the recipe showed to be in the red High range for bitterness so I thought I would...

Fg right on but brew tastes and smells sweet

So I upgraded equipment and brewed my first 10 G batch of all grain. I had a lot of new things going on so my head was spinning to say the least. I brewed a AHS Cream Ale recipe that I have done tons of times in partial mash. I had received a refractometer just the day before so I used that...

    first yeast starter question

So I got my stir plate in the other day and plan on brewing in the afternoon tomorrow. I am making an 10 gallon AHS Belgian White recipe so I started a 1.9 L starter with White labs Belgian Wit ale and .5lbs of extra pale LME. I heated the mixture to boiling, cooled and pitched the yeast. I...

    strain relief for tubing?

Is anybody using anything for strain relief when it comes to tubing for wort transfer / recirculation? I have noticed that the thinner walled tubing and even the thick high temp tubing seems to buckle at the end of the fitting. Anyone using anything to keep the tubing from crimping like that?

    Help with an STC-1000

I had similar issues when I built my keezer/ fermentation side by side. What fixed it for me was: Placed the temp lead in a water filled test tube installed at top front of chamber. Set the minimum " pause" time to a much higher value. That keeps the system from cycling on an off every few...

Freakin awesome BigDeal!!!! Love the blue lights and talk about super clean and tight. My favorites are the diamond plate, the liner inside your doors , the fact you wired into the thermostat and the nice gas / beer line management. Appreciate the props but that great build is all you. I...
