Ok thanks bud. Yeah not sure what happened to the picture. When I took it it was crystal clear.

Hey all. I'm 5 days into primary fermentation on a Front Porch Pale ale, and first of all I would like an opinion on this stuff floating on top. It's not a film, and disperses easy. Not sure what it is. Also: My OG reading was right around 1.048 (target was 1.046) and the FG I just took is at...

Is 5 oz. too much primer?

Ok thanks for the input all. 4 oz it is.

Is 5 oz. too much primer?

It's still in primary so i havent bottled yet. So 4oz would be better yeah? I might just try that. The instructions havent been all that accurate up to this point so i don't mind doing my own thing.

Is 5 oz. too much primer?

Hey all. I have a home brew kit that came with Front Porch Pale Ale. They supply 5oz. of priming sugar, but I read that a lot of kit's provide too much priming sugar and cause gushers. I also read that 4oz is good for a 5 gallon batch. Does 1 oz make a big difference? I'll probably just use the...

    What are you drinking now?

Water and some Coke Zero. First ever batch still in primary.

    The cardinal brewing sin

Because the people that buy these kits are new brewers and they want to make it as easy as possible for them to brew to get people hooked. If you follow those instructions you'll get an OK beer. Not the best possible though. It's all to make a sale.

Where there is no homebrew store...

If you're in the Caribbean I'd say switch to Rum ;)

    The cardinal brewing sin

Hey wtrfwlnut I just brewed my first ever this past friday. Like you I pitched a little warm. It was around 76 or so. But by the time fermentation started kicking in a few hours later i had it down to mid 60's. Right now it's reading 63-64. Hoping it turns out well. I did re-hydrate the yeast...

    Mini-fridge lagering?

Well for what it's worth I never want to use kegs. And also I don't think I'll ever go past 5 gallon batches. Might even go down to 3. We'll see about that part.

    Brewers Best Kit question

    Lol ok thanks I will.

    Mini-fridge lagering?

Yeah I would trim the excess crap from inside the fridge. How much did your setup cost and what temps can you go down to?

    What thermometer for smoker?

Do yourself a favor and get wireless so you don't have to hover around the bbq all the time. Wish I would have lol.

    Brewers Best Kit question

Good morning and Monday (boooo) to all. Was perusing the instructions for some BB extract kits that I would be interested in, and sure enough every one except lagers says to ferment at 64-72 degrees. Surely not all these beers have the same fermentation temperature right? Some beers I have my...

Just brewed my first batch ever!

We just don't have the space or the extra supplies to do two at a time. Wanna see how this one turns out first anyway. :)

    Mini-fridge lagering?

Hey all. So ive been reading up on refridgerators for keeping beer at constant ferm temps and also lagering, and was wondering what type of mini fridge would hold one or two 6.5 gallon fermentation buckets, and what type of temperature controller it would need. Trying to do it relatively cheap...

Things about your co-workers that annoy you

Thankfully I have no co-workers. Just some whiny pilots I have to make happy and tell "airplanes fine," or "that's how it's supposed to work." lol

Just brewed my first batch ever!

Ok 1 to 2 weeks is no problem. Thats what i figured. So once the top of the liquid is cleared off its time to check with a hydrometer? How should i get visual confirmation since the bucket is not see-through? Pull out the airlock and peek through? Or take the lid off?

Just brewed my first batch ever!

Yeah I will trying some things on the next batch i brew. It will cooled down much quicker lol. About when should i pop off the lid to take a gravity reading? I really wanna get this right lol.
