Mashing at 1.25 quarter per pound of grain is larger than my batch!

Mine was originally supposed to be "ready" to drink at the end of October. It was for her birthday as she's a huge fan of RIS's. One stout led to another and well we have a new assistant brewer due to arrive within the week. I just let it sit in secondary for a few extra months and now...

Mashing at 1.25 quarter per pound of grain is larger than my batch!

Good Luck with the brew. I made the Kate the Great clone back in January and just bottled it in October. It was a PM on the stove top and was my last indoor brew before my wife bought me a cooler and kicked me outside. I bottled it in October and popped one last weekend. It was carbed...

Mashing at 1.25 quarter per pound of grain is larger than my batch!

Since it's over 23 lbs. of grain, I think you'll be ok. The more grain you have, the more absortion will take place. My last 2 brews were only about 12-14 lbs of grain and I had almost 4.5 gallons of strike water and 4 gallons of sparge water. If you use a program and have it set to a...

    deluxe all-grain system

When the question was is it more cost effective to buy the items and do it himself, the answer most certainly is yes. Didn't say it was a rip off or that they can't make a profit but, for the cost of 2 coolers and parts at Home Depot, I'd much rather spend $100 and spend 20 minutes assembling...

    deluxe all-grain system

Definitely more cost effective to get the coolers and fittings from HD or Lowes. You can build two coolers for under $100 total and then buy a kettle with what's left over. Plus, you can pick up a bazooka tube for $20 at your LHBS instead of the false bottom.

    Cheyco's CFC

Bringing this one back from the dead..... Getting ready to build this over the holiday weekend most likely and have a question on the 'T' junctions and fittings Does the 3/8" copper tubing run through the 5/8" hose barb and out through the T and the compression fitting?

    Super Simple 15G Plastic Conical

Thanks dcarter. I had planned on rigging a blow off valve either in the lid or on top somewhere.

    Super Simple 15G Plastic Conical

Question for anybody using the 30g inductor tank.... Is there room at the top of the conical if you put in a 1 bbl batch or the krausen? I'd rather not spring for a few 60g's if I don't have to.

    Newbie burner question

I agree with the rest. Check your regulator - 55k BTU should be plenty to get that amount boiling. I have this hunk a junk and I can get 6.5 gallons in a 10 gal SS kettle from mash temp to boil in about 30-45 minutes on full blast. Comes with an aluminum pot as an added bonus. I drilled a...

How many gallons of Homebrew in 2012?

+5 of single hop Chinook IPA 31,569

What's the most effective thing for shortening a brew day?

+1 on the SS braid. Those things can turn to junk quick. I only got 1 or 2 brews outta mine and then I had 2 stuck mashes in a row. Picked up a bazooka tube at my LHBS for about $20. My efficiency has been between 75-80% every brew and no more stuck/slow lautering.

    Thoughts on Chinook IPA recipe

It's a batch sparge but iBrewmaster doesn't have that as an option so I just modified the fly sparge selection.

    Thoughts on Chinook IPA recipe

American Pale Ale Three Floyds Zombie Dust Clone

Took a bit of a hiatus this summer from brewing as we're getting ready to welcome a new assistant brewer to the family in a few weeks but I've had too many requests for this from friends and familty. Scored a lb of Citra from my LHBS for $30 (still pricey imo, but if I want it looks like I gotta...

OFFICIAL Kate the Great Russian Imperial Stout Clone

yup - makes sense thanks guys. So you think re-pitching is a must here even though it'll sit in bottles for about 3.5 months prior to serving?

OFFICIAL Kate the Great Russian Imperial Stout Clone

I still have a PM/Extract batch in secondary that I brewed in January. I'm looking to have this ready to drink for the Christmas/New Years. It was originally for my wife's birthday in October, but one homebrew led to another and we're expecting another assistant brewer in the beginning of...

Why AB InBev and the others suck

I don't boycott them because they make a crappy light lager or because they want in on the Craft Market that they are now losing market share to. I boycott them because of the their business tactics. Anyone who hasn't seen it should watch the movie Beer Wars. It will give you great insight...
