    Cleanest bittering hop

I like Northern Brewer and especially Willamette for bittering. I don't feel they're out of the norm or impart any "specialty" flavors. The Will's are low-AA% so you'll need more of them to get your point across. Clusters work really well with more complex malt profiles. If you try to do a...

    Help Quick-Water is PH 7

FWIW I use 9 mL Lactic Acid per 4 gallons of water in both the strike water and the sparge water for your 6-12 SRM brews and it seems to be okay. Kaiser is right... we should be diluting with purified water about 50% of the liquor... but I get acceptable results with what I've been doing so I...

    07.07.07 Final decision poll

I think I'm in this camp. I wasn't around for 06.06.06 though, so I really don't know what the precedent was. For this one though, we had a grain bill, then we moved on to hops, and now someone wants to change the grain bill? I think we need to go back to what was already "agreed...

    DIY Randall--confused

:off: The person on the left side of Sparky's picture looks like they have no legs. At least they can still drink beer. :mug:

    07.07.07 Final decision poll

Someone suggested Wyeast 1272. I like that idea if anyone else does.

    07.07.07 Final decision poll

We could, but then it wouldn't be the same brew. Isn't the point to generate mass quanitities of (pretty much) the same beer?

    07.07.07 Recipe discussion thread

If it's any inspiration to you, I'm doing 2 batches... 1 of whatever the group decides, and then 1 with the same grain bill and a seven-hop blend I suggested very early on in this thread (page 9 or so maybe?). I say, DO BOTH!! :ban:

    07.07.07 - Last Poll

In the spirit of the poll, I think we should not have Sorachi's in the recipe. It was about 3rd to last in the poll. Plus, I think some LHBS's have no idea what they are. Cascade, Simcoe, and Amarillo got the biggest votes, so I think we should use those three varieties. As far as the...

    Anyone built a hybrid chiller?

After I posted I thought this same thing. I guess we're talking the larger-diameter PVC Pipes... couldn't you just get PVC caps that screwed on or were otherwise removable so you could replace ice, etc but still maintained a closed environment. The inner-diameter pipe is a good idea too!!

    AHS IPA American II

I've tried it and it was good after a couple months' conditioning. For my pallette, the German Magnum bittering hops were a little much especially when it was still green, and there wasn't a lot of hop flavor or aroma... it was mostly bitterness. I could drink it comfortably after a couple...

    Anyone built a hybrid chiller?

What does he suggest for the canister that the coil is in? And how much coil does he suggest? It seems like a really good concept just from looking at it... the lazy man's counterflow chiller :D I like it and would be willing to try it if I knew the materials involved.

    Giving Friends Homebrew

I always have my friends taste-test my homebrews. With the ones that go over well, friends will ask me what it would cost for me to brew it again. I give them a shopping list and have them order it online to be shipped to my home. I don't make a profit, and they get the beer they want. I...

    Which yeast is which?

It won't say anything on the vial, but there is a TON of info on this site about starters. I think just about everyone uses them for their liquid yeasts. Do a little looking around - I know there are threads that have good pictures and such. Your main needs are a 1000 mL erlenmeyer flask, a...

    Non-Compete Clause

What's the time table on the non-compete? Everyone in my company signs one whether you're a VP or a retail salesperson or a call center employee. I've seen retail folks jump to competitors without reprimand; we did have a VP try to go to a competitor and the courts said she couldn't for the 1...

    Which yeast is which?

Make a starter to get it growing first, and pitch the whole she-bang into the brew. That'll make sure you have viable yeast before you get started.

    07.07.07 - Last Poll

Hey dude with 10 posts... calm down please. Anyone can throw some Cascade, Simcoe, and Amarillo in a bag, shake it up, and sprinkle a pinch in a boiling pot, and a dash into the same pot a little later... All we're asking for is a little interjection from a well-respected member of the forum...

Whole Leaf in a glass carboy

Big giant sanitized funnel and sanitized racking cane to push them thru the hole in the funnel if you tried to stuff too many in at once. Been there, done that :drunk:

    07.07.07 Hops Poll #2 - Which Varieties?

Just to inject my opinion/thoughts... It is a common acceptance that Simcoe and Amarillo pair well together. At the time of my previous post, Simcoe was not in the top 3. As of right now (11:16pm Central, 02/11/07) it is Cascade, Simcoe, and Amarillo. I'm interested to hear your suggestion...
