    Anyone used a Brewmation system?

A friend of mine has one as part of his brew on premise at the LHBS. Seems like he's always having problems with it. I've lost count a long time ago of how many times he's texted me saying he's waiting for a replacement part.

    BCS-460, 3 elements, 2 pumps

I tried looking for a reasonably priced DIN mountable contactor when I was doing my build, but couldn't find one. I highly recommend "Pioneer Breaker". I bought the majority of my parts from them.

$3000 saved for a system. What to get?

There are so many different configs out there (BIAB, RIMs, HERMs). Those can be broken down even furthur depending on your style of brewing. I think the first step is to figure out what you want to build and don't base it off how much money you have. My system is a 2 vessel 2 pump RIMs...

    Hot Tub RIMS Tube

Kudos for the ingenuity in using the spa tube. I'm glad to hear you made some progress. Too bad you can't get the electronics to work on it. Would be pretty slick to be able to hook your pump up to one of the outlets and be able to turn it on/off with the spa controls.

What yeast to use to start a Flanders

Actually, that's EXACTLY what I'm saying. Beer styles should be brewed as authentic as possible. Can you make a good "belgian style" beer with american 2 row. Yes. Will it be as good as a belgian beer with belgian grains and regional ingredients .. in my opinion .. no. That's just my...

Flanders on fruit - Slow - is this normal?

1.5gals on 6lbs of fruit seems like overkill to me. I like overkill though. You'd better hope the sacc is dead or you'll end up with wine and not beer.

What yeast to use to start a Flanders

I think using pacman would be a mistake. #1 because I don't like pacman yeast :) #2 making a belgian style beer with a neutral american ale yeast won't taste right. Same goes for the grain in my opinion, use belgian grains. I know you didn't mention what grains you're using, but it's a big...

    Hot Tub RIMS Tube

Awesome find!! Get ahold of darrin at brewers hardware, he would probably be able to answer your question as well as find a part for you. That's alot of electronics in there .. what are the labels on the plugs on the bottom pic. I've got an electrical engineering degree and I'm very curious...

Are there any big name stores that carry SSR's?

I'd recommend using a multimeter on the trigger to make sure the SSR is getting the proper trigger voltage. I'd also recommend testing across the output to see if you're getting any output. Seems odd that it'd be dead after only 5 mins, but it is possible.

    Illuminate your fermentations

Would you mind sharing the info for the parts for your build? I'm specifically interested in the fan you used. In the other thread he mentions using a PWM server fan. I'm thinking about hooking one up to an arduino. Also, the other thread the guy extremely underpitched with an un-rehydrated...

    5 Gallon Stir Plate

I'm very interested to hear the results of the mead. It's very impressive that you can get a high gravity mead to ferment faster with the stirplate. I've thought about doing this with a 5L flask and a 1 gallon batch. 1 packed of un-rehydrated dry yeast however, is extremely underpitching. If...

    Bottom Drain on Brew Kettle

Did you get a chance to try this out? I have a functioning RIMs setup that I'd like to upgrade to include bottom drains. I get air stuck in my lines while priming, which isn't a too big of a deal, but I want to add electric valves for some automation.

What to do with my first barrel

So far I've only helped fill 57 gallon barrels. Not sure what I'd do with a 5 gallon barrel. Oxidation would be the big issue. Make sure you keep it away from any sour beers that may be fermenting nearby. We had one of our barrels get infected by lacto/pedio, but it ended up working out...

    Brewer moving to Phoenix, AZ

wow .. 75 degree water in the winter .. my water doesn't get above 65 in the summer. FYI: When it's -10F outside and you're running water from your house to your shop 200ft away to your CFC via garden hose ... you can chill wort very fast with a CFC :rockin:

    Chocolate Cherry Stout

I just recently installed a nitro tap into my keezer .. after my latte stout runs out I think I know what my next nitro brew will be. Trippel-A, how did yours turn out? Darkness .. yours sounds really good. Looking forward to a full review ..

    Do You Filter?

^ +1 to what he said. I borrowed a plate filter from a friend, but when I saw how well gelatin worked I didn't see the point. I've never had a problem with beer that wasn't clear enough.

    Buh-bye, Carboy Brush

+1 to stankonia. However, I'm a big fan of DIY'edness .. so kudos for the build. I would have used a "Sham-wow" just for giggles :)

Fermentation control steps (cold crash, temps, time, etc)

I've never cold crashed my beers and have no problems with clarity. I made a tripel and people were stunned at how clear it was. I only use secondaries when I'm adding fruit, spices, additional sugars, .. etc. When I feel the beer has finished fermenting I add gelatin and wait a week to dump...
