    usinge joose bottles

I will give you another bump. From what I have read I would think you could really reuse any bottle that comes with carbonated product. If the original product comes carbed the bottles would be rated for it. If the Joose is not carbed the bottles might not hold under pressure. I have read on...

    usinge joose bottles

Hahahaha! When I first saw your title I laughed pretty hard. Thought some 14 year old was trying to brew in juice bottles. regarding your question, sorry I can't help.

    Milk Stout Advice

I am planning on doing a milk stout soon, and from what I have researched I would start with 1/2 lb. Lactose is unfermentable so you can always taste before you bottle and if you want it sweeter you can add the other 1/2 lb with your priming sugar.

    Milk Stout and Barley

Thanks for the suggestions. I didn't think of adding DME. I still have a little time to play with this one, one of my other kits came with crushed steeping grains so I will be doing that one first. (side note, I need another bucket!) I did order the extra 8oz of roasted barley, but am undecided...

which of these should I purchase...

If you use Ebay, you can find Midwest's basic kit that comes with an ingredient kit and a $25 gift certificate towards a purchase with them. Comes to around $105 with shipping. This was a good deal for me and got me everything I needed to get started.

    All grain to extract conversion

I have been trying to figure the best way to convert as well. I will take a crack at it and somebody can correct me if I am wrong. From the looks of it, the 2-row is the only thing you will convert. The rest are steeping grains. 10lbs of grains would be roughly 6-7 lbs of LME. I would use...

    Finding bottles

I know this is a little old, but wanted to share my new grab. I was in the same situation, not enough bottles. I posted on Craigslist and kept bumping my listing up every couple of days. Had a couple of bites but all ended up being twist off. Took almost a month but finally got somebody who had...

A day in the life of HBT

I am making a milk stout. I want a nice creamy taste. Where I work has those little individual cups of half and half for coffee, how many should I add to 5 gallons?

    Possible Contamination (Bodily Fluids!)

IFMracin is right. I would dump it now. If you think the two hours of time was a waste, just think how much time you will have to spend talking to government agents about all of the missing children.

    Label removal method?

I have filled up a 5 gallon bucket with oxyclean and soak around 15 or so bottles for a day or two, whenever I get around to it. Most of the labels are gone by then and some I just use a green scratch pad to clean up some glue. I then just throw another 15 or so bottles in the same solution for...

    White house beer

I am not a fan of Obama, but did people really think Obama was out back brewing all grain on the weekends? The original article I saw said the kitchen made the beer, Obama just bought the equipment. I have seen lots of posts on here about people wishing they had more time to brew but just didn't...

    Calling All ND Brewers!

Thanks for the tip on Bernie's. I got three cases in nice boxes for $3. They are clear but will work for the cider I want to make. Now I won't have to use brown bottles for that and tie them up.

    Banana taste at local bar

Ok, so this might be a dumb question but I am curious. When I go back to my hometown and go to one of the local bars I get Bud Light on tap (not much there). It always has an off flavor that I can only describe as banana like. Just wondering what could cause this. Dirty lines? Maybe I should...

    Northern Brewer

I added three kits at NB just to check, and shipping for me was $10.83. I have used Midwest in my limited experience, but less than $1 extra a kit wouldn't stop me from using them.

    Calling All ND Brewers!

So, I seem to be having an issue getting bottles. Have tried a few different things, contacted the recycling place but haven't heard back, and talked to friends. The friends that drink the most beer drink Busch Light cans "To save money" so they are not much help. I have been enjoying emptying...

How long can I keep liquid extract?

I am new, so have only been in there twice. First time just to browse and see what was there, and second time picked up a few things that did not come with my kit. I was planning on going there for the grain and yeast as the price was about even and ordering the extract, but maybe I will just...

How long can I keep liquid extract?

I found a couple older threads on this, but nothing really covered my question. I ordered a couple of extract kits to start out with as I am new to this. After doing a few kits I want to start playing with things and will not use kits, but will probably use LME for a while. My question is...

    Dog Breeders are Nuts!

HAHA! I love your response, but it was a little harsh. I am sure that is the only thing they will listen to. I would love to see if he reponds to your last email. We got our last dog for free from a friend, shepard/lab cross. I didn't want to deal with a breeder for the same issues you are...

    Kegs vs bottles

I am in the same bucket as you are. I am fermenting my first brew and have put some thought into bottles or kegs. I might have more of an opinion when I have some more experience but for now I am going with bottles. I like variety and once I have a few brews done I don't want to be stuck with...
