Taking a Brewery Road trip around Lake Michigan

If you're passing through Chicago, on top of Goose Island Brewpub, you'll want to check out: 1. Half Acre Beer Co. (production facility with Tasting room) - Lincoln and Cullom Ave 2. Revolution Brewing Co. (brewpub) - Milwaukee Ave. between Fullerton and California 3. Haymarket Pub and Brewery-...

    Flat Beer

Well I'm gonna guess bottles. If you have any beers left, put water around the seal and shake the bottle. If you've got a leak, you should see bubbles where air escaping the bottle.

    Flat Beer

I've had this happen a few times and it was almost always remedied by new gaskets. You can get a buttload of them online or at your LHBS. Grolsch Gaskets- 100 Count

    need help cloning a recipe

The one in Roselle is excellent. Their grain turnover could be better, but they've got a good hardware selection, and their yeast are always within the expiration date (and if not they'll give it to you for free. They gave me a free pacmam because it was old.)

    Half Acre Gossamer Golden

Instead of using 2 row you can use LME, instead of flaked corn, you can use corn sugar, and instead of rice, you can use rice syrup solids. Converting it down from 11.5 gallons to 5, and converting the sugar extracted from the grains to extract, I get: 5.67 lbs Extra Pale LME 1.4 lbs Corn...

    water volume question

If you're a member of the AHA, there's a pretty scientific audio presentation from the 2011 NHC by Charlie Bamforth in the members audio section. You should be able to see the Powerpoint slides: 34th Annual National Homebrewers Conference Hopping into the Sunset But from just browsing them...

    Half Acre Gossamer Golden

Well I know from the website that Gossamer is 4.2% ABV. So in a 5 gallon batch, you'd have about 3.3 lbs of light LME and 2 lb of pale DME to bring your gravity to 1.042 (with 75% attenuation that's a 4.1% ABV beer) Someone else who's had Gossamer recently and with a little more experience can...

    Half Acre Gossamer Golden

Half Acre is incredibly hush about their ingredients and recipes, even during the tours. Subscribing in case someone know something I don't. That being said, I'm taking another tour in early February and will let you know if I figure something out. :)

    water volume question

I'm not really sure exactly what the effects would be, but I can tell you that your beer will, at least mathematically, be more bitter. In partial boil kits, you have to boil more hops to get the same bitterness as you would doing a full boil because your hop utilization is lower in lower...

    Fermentation

For me, it Depends. As a general rule I primary my beer for three weeks (good practice is four), then bottle and ill measure FG on bottling day. If my gravity is off from my expected attenuation, I may let the beer sit for a little longer or bottle anyways. The only exceptions to this are if...

    Summer ale recipe please

Check the recipe database for Light Hybrid Beers. The link below links to the page sorted by views. Obviously, the more views, the more tested the beer so they're likely to be good beers: Light Hybrid Beer Find a recipe you like then adjust the hops to fit a galaxy hops schedule. Tag your...

    Fermentation

Have you calibrated your hydrometer? Calibrate it against normal tap water and make sure it reads 1.000. That's the most common cause of misreadings.

Micro and Nano Brewers Sales question

See: ProBrewer.com: An Online Resource Serving The Beer Industry It's a website specifically for professional brewers, their forums are great for this sort of info. I don't sell, but have talked to a few of the brewers in IL. Illinois has self distribution up to 15,000 barrels, then a 3 tier...

    recipe help

You can mess around with your recipe in the link I gave you. I always concern myself about the balance between malt and hops so that's why I added the 2 oz's for 60 minutes. 1 oz at 60 and 1 oz at 15 will put your IBU's around 20.

    recipe help

At 75% efficiency and 75% yeast attenuation, I show: OG - 1.054 FG - 1.013 SRM - 3 IBU's - 2 oz 4% AA liberty hop pellets @ 60 minutes - 25.1 ABV - 5.5% this would be a pale ale. Although, the Pilsner and Rice may put it into a different category. Source: http://beercalculus.hopville.com/recipe

    Washing yeast

If you look at the washing yeast thread. When you first put the water into your carboy of trub, the very bottom layers are proteins and hops. My understanding is that you generally want to keep your wort away from those bottom layers. Washing keeps the trub from imparting any flavors into your...

I appreciate your concern. If the mods have a problem please let me know. However, the original copyright is by Carlo Fusco 1993-1995 (it's 2011), I haven't changed the copyright notice on the spreadsheet, and It is freely available from the first link. Brewing Charts?? is there any?

A while back, I modified the Beer Formula Calculator at: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f84/software-available-42935/ To include the XML tables listed in some Open Source brewing software I found. It includes spreadsheets with tables for the Style Guidelines, Malts, Hops, and Yeasts. You can...
