I completely underestimated role of oxygen

Wow, what a thread. I appreciate all of you that have participated. As a result, my O2 system from Williams will be arriving tomorrow. Needless to say, I'll be using it for my next brew and, just maybe, I'll post some anecdotal findings on this thread.:D You guys are awesome, thanks again...

Reduce hops for full boil and any other adjustments?

By increasing the volume of your boil you will need to adjust your hops accordingly to stay within the guidelines of your recipe. I use a brewing software (beersmith) to do this. You're increasing hop utilization which means that in the end you will extract more bitterness per hop. I'm sure...

    whats the difference

I'll tell you that I made the jump to Deathbrewer's stovetop PM method and have noticed a HUGE difference. To be honest my extract brews weren't all that great save for one IPA. I haven't had a bad PM brew yet (3 batches). The best part of what he does (brew in a bag-BIAB) is that you...

    Fermentation or a Problem?

Well, at this point I'd probably just wait it out for a few days. I'm pretty sure that fermentation may not be visible for 48 hours or more after pitching. What type of yeast did you use? Dry or liquid?

Can I store LME at 40 degrees instead of 70 degrees?

I'm not an expert on this, but I can't think of any reason that you couldn't store it at 40 deg. I would just make sure you warm it up before you intend to use it to lower the viscosity. When I used to use LME I stored it in the fridge. I switched to DME strictly because I worry about freshness.

Called my wife a Swmbo... She was mad

I don't know about anyone else, but my wife refers to herself as swmbo. In third person none the less, especially when she's angry. "SWMBO's gonna hurt you!":)

    Stepping up to partial mash

I have to say that using Deathbrewer's stovetop PM method has worked wonders for me. I like the fact that I didn't need to buy any new equipment either. At this point, I'm satisfied and probably won't make the step up to AG. Have fun! I think you'll find that it's worth it.

    Irish Stout Ó Flannagáin Standard

Used DeathBrewer's stove top PM method. Have to say that going from extract w/ steeping to his PM method is the absolute best adjustment I've made in my 8 months of brewing so far. Just put this in a keg today and am currently sampling... Just wow. Jet black, nearly carbed from a full month...

Need some expert advice on kegging system

Thanks for your reply! That is really a good thing to know. The list does go on and on... so much to learn, and I feel like I've learned so much already! What an awesome, intense, and absolutely consuming hobby.

Need some expert advice on kegging system

I was fortunate enough to recieve a kegging system from my father-in-law over the holidays. He gave me two cornies, one primary regulator, and two 5# CO2 tanks. I'm trying to figure out how to use this set up and what I should add. I envision that I'll one day have 3 or 4 kegs on tap at one...

    Brewing in the frickin' cold!

I brewed last night outside in the single digits. I seemed to have a lot more boil off than normal. Must've looked like my house was on fire with the huge cloud I produced. I set my Indian Brown on the concrete slab for a few minutes and ended up having a beer slushy. I was prepared to...

Dark Mild Mild Mannered Ale (AG) (E) UK/US

Planning on brewing this next weekend for my 7th brew (still a beginner at this). I have a yeast question. I have a pack of the Nottingham Yeast, but I also have a smacked pack of Wyeast 1469 PC W Yorkshire Ale yeast in the fridge from a failed brewing session last week (thermometer broke in...
