Brew In A Bag RIMS system

Nice setup! I have a question on the brew pots you use: I see they are Bayou pots. Are they the 44 qt ones ? Was it the one with the spigot already, or did you make a hole yourself ? Also, did you get the basket from Bayou as well ? Thx

how long should five pound co2 last?

if spraying star san does not work, try to soak every connection in a bowl of water. I just built a spunding valve, which is basically 3 pieces of well made fitting going together..... I had 3 leaks, just because I did not put enough force when putting it together. Spraying was just not enough...

    Can I have a keg without a freezer/fridge?

Hagelslag, yes you can carbonate a keg at room temperature. Since at room temperature the liquid will not absorb the CO2 as well, you will have to apply a higher pressure than you would do in a fridge. I could not find a table that goes up to 70 degrees, but something around 30 / 35 psi...

Does head space in bottle cause oxidation?

The air getting into the auto siphon can come from the hose / siphon connection. Make sure the hose is far enough on the racking cane. For me, just one pump is enough. I just raise the moving part (piston) above the liquid level while the whole thing is completely in the carboy/bucket, and...

    Keezer temp question

Did you move the probe ? When did you plug the freezer back on ? When I first turned on my freezer with 3 kegs full of beer in it, room temperature, it needed quite a bit of time (between 3 hours and a night, I was sleeping so could not tell exactly :p ) to reach the temperature and stop running.

Can any vendor beat this price? Good deal?

Here are some comments: * I think you are missing a gas disconnect and the nut that goes with it. * I am not sure you need that much of gas line * You will need more that 5ft per tap of beer line. I got a kit from kegconnection 2 months ago, and 5 is just not enough, even with 3/16 ID line. I...

How Much Money Is There To Be Saved?

You might, I say might, save money if you brew your own beer. But that's not the point: if this is the only reason why you want to brew, the hobby might not interest you that much. It does take some time to brew. It does take some space in your home to brew. It might upset SWMBO to brew :D. So...

    (Another) Frigidaire 7.2 Keezer Build

I got the wood part for my keezer from home depot: they would cut the pieces at the right dimension (the guy there was so patient while I kept changing my mind :) ), but they would not do angle cuts. With the right finish, the result is nice anyway. I was in the same situation as you: it had to...

    Stoopid question...

From kegconnection website: Usable Shank Space: The amount of shank space that is available after using the front and rear components. 5 1/8" = 3 5/8" usable shank 4 1/8" = 2 5/8" usable shank 3 1/8" = 1 5/8" usable Shank 2 1/8" = 1/2" usable shank

    Aging the same as carbing?

Aging and carbing are not the same. You can have a beer with the right level of carbonation, but still too young to drink. For example, a Belgium grand cru I made last year became drinkable only after 5 months at room temperature. It took all this time to the yeast to clean up after the early...

    My First Spunding Valve

Thanks for the part list, I could not find something similar and as detailed on HBT. I really want to be able to monitor the pressure while priming in a keg. I will definitely use this to finish fermenting in a keg as well to carbonate even sooner, without priming.

Half glass of foam UNLESS I purge keg first

I am new to kegging so someone will need to confirm this, but the way you describe it, it looks like the CO2 is going out of solution because of the temperature raise. This increases the pressure in your kegs, which ends up higher than you serving pressure. You cannot read this pressure on your...

How to set up multiple kegs

Manifolds offers some advantages to a simple splitter: * You could get a 3 way (or more) manifold now, but have only 2 gas lines now, and leave the 3rd outlet closed until you decide to expand. * If you have a leaking Quick Disconnect, or need to change a CO2 line, you can close the...

Sizing your Chest Freezer for Corny Kegs

The reasons why I kept 1x8 instead of 2x8 are: * I used pine which is sturdy enough. * the 2x8 selection at the local home depot was not really good looking. It was construction wood. It would have required a lot of sanding, and I do not have any power tools other than a drill. * I wanted the...

Sizing your Chest Freezer for Corny Kegs

I got the shank that came standard with the kegconnection kit. According to their website, it is 5 1/8 shanks. Way too long for this. I really did not need that much since I use 1x8 (which is 3/4" thick) and 3/4" of insulation. This is one detail that I did not think about soon enough. You...

Sizing your Chest Freezer for Corny Kegs

Yes I tried to put 4 ball lock kegs and it fits. It is tight, but it fits. But you will have to make sure that: * you use ball lock kegs. Pin lock will not fit. * your collar is tall enough. I used some 1x8, and the vertical space is just enough. The fact that I did not keep the original lid...

    New Haier 5.3cf Keezer Build!

I do not know the haier, but if you consider other brands and options, here are the pics and some details for the holiday 5cu feet that I just finished: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f35/holiday-5-cu-feet-red-keezer-240073/ I wanted something small as well, that is nice enough to be rolled...

Holiday 5 cu feet red keezer

You still have some time. Once you have your design (you have so many great ideas here on HBT), it goes quickly to make. Thx!

Thinking about kegging, couple of questions.

I got a 4 keg complete setup with them. I am very happy with all the new parts (no leak, no mess), but I was disappointed with the kegs: not cleaned, a lot of dents, one had a wrong post. So my advice would be to get everything from them, but not the kegs. The 4 kegs I recently got from sabco...
