I have read to steep the grains in less water, 1-2 gallons, then add the water after to boil. I do this with good results.

Vanilla seems to fade, I used 3 whole beans in the seconary for 2 weeks and 4 oz at bottleing, and you can barely smell it now after a few months. Next time I will go with more for sure.

I found also that with some of my flip tops, that if the top itself is mis shaped or chiped, it will affect the seal and carbing. I had to replace several of the tops themself.
