    Mash Temp too low!!! Help!

+1 to all of the above.... Do you pre-heat the tun? (1gal @180-190 deg. while I heat my strike) Where are you storing your grains? Are they cold? Let them acclimate before mashing in. Is the top of your tun insulated? (great stuff it or place a heavy towel on top)

Well I did it I pulled the trigger and went into kegging

I made the leap to kegging after my first bottling experience! I opted for the chest freezer in the unheated garage. Had to go with a dual mode, heating/cooling t-stat and a season switch. Anyway this allows me to store 5 cornies at temp and have room to lager a primary. I recently built a...

    Lets talk Soda FAQ!

Does anyone else just keep a keg of water carbonated? I just get the flavored syrups from the coffee shops or institutional food store and the kids make their own recipes. Just spritz with home made carbo wasser and Voila'... Soda!

    The Wal-Mart Challenge

Harbor Freight is selling Mr. Beer and refills. Does that qualify as brewing tools?

Calculated my beer intake, what's yours?

Just another reason to keg instead of bottling! I probably average 2 pints a day, half a dozen bottles of wine a year and 3 bottles of the hard stuff at the most per anum. There are days that I don't (gasp!) even get to drink a pint.

Second AG didn't work so well

My first foray into AG came up short of projected OG by .011 but my FG was extremely low 1.006. My second AG brew was similar with not quite as low FG of 1.012. I am leaning toward the crush as being my issue so I purchased a Barley Crusher. I haven't done a brew with it yet. I think that...

    Is this an extract problem?

Those of us who have very hard water or lots of sulfur or iron in their water supply use a softener/filtration system of some kind. Typically, your outside water spigots and possibly utility spigots, say in a garage deep sink, are tapped before the conditioner. I have a sodium ion replacement...

Beer straight from the kitchen counter

Kinda like an automatic espresso machine... over priced(probably), over engineered and completely boring! Like taking the sizzle out of the steak.

My quest for a truly unique recipe

This turned into a rambling description of my first all grain brew, but it really is a recipe related question. I have become obsessed with the idea of a Wild Rice and Buckwheat recipe. I started out by adding a pound of wild rice and a pound of 30l crystal to a LME American Wheat package...

Wild Rice and Buck Wheat as adjuncts?

Has any one ever used either in any recipes? I have a wheat LME recipe in primary right now that I added a pound of wild rice and a pound of crystal malt in a steep. It has promise. the flavor is undeniably different than any wheat or true weizen that I have had. (and very pleasant at this...

    Hello from the Heart Land!

Just another Newbie! I am in the Youngstown, Ohio area. I have spent a little time here perusing the stickies and FAQ's and decided to register so can start posting and showing my ignorance. I am jumping in feet first and going all grain after a couple extract batches. I will be using the Batch...
