    Barley Crusher Question

I really don't know if the speed would make that big of a difference but... I picked up a cheep azz right angle drill at Harbor freight with variable speed trigger and just run it at a slower speed.

    Custom tap handle search

I found some acrylic handles on ebay that you can slip your label into. They're not fancy but nice looking and only $10 a pop. Monty, your handles kick major butt!

Have you ever had a Colaweizen?

Habe henchen und Pomme fritz mit curry bitte. The best meal ever purchased from a street vendor anywhere! Cola Weizen was a favorite desert for me when I was stationed in Pfullendorf. I've never seen it in a bottle, though it has been better than 20 years since I was in Deutchland.

What is your least favorite part of the brewing process

Clean up and bottling. So I keg and soak. After the wort is in primary I put everything in the rinsed out BK, fill with hot water and PBW for an overnight soak. Next day a quick rinse and I'm done.

    irish moss and gelatin ??

I've found the following method to be easy and effective. Bring 2 cups of water to boil in the spark-o-matic, cover with saran wrap and let cool down to 185f or so, mix in one packet of Knox, recover, let cool to below 100f, add to secondary, wait 3 days+/-, keg.

I was given a free Keg, what to do???

A plasma cutter is the best option. I burned mine out with a standard oxy/acetylene cutter but you have to make your burn wide and plan on doing a good bit of grinding as SS tends to melt and run rather than cut. Definitely fill the keg with water whatever method you choose to stop the frag...

    S-shaped vs 3-piece airlock

Ditto (see first reply) The three piece airlocks can handle much more vigorous action and at $.99 each they certainly won't break the bank. I do use the S-locks on my secondaries if all of my others are in use. I use an S-lock on my starter flasks also(yes, I know I don't need a lock on them...

Can a single spout tower be converted to a dual tap?

If nothing else, you could stagger the second tap an inch or so to make room for the nut and elbow.

    Question for the brain-trust...

Bottom line is you can build it cheaper than you can buy it period. Now, do you have the time or inclination to build it? +1 on 10 gal cap. Round or square coolers are better for fly sparging. Rectangular coolers are cheaper and easier to deal with and work perfectly for batch sparging. SS braid...

Braided hose or Manifold? Which is better?

OK here goes... I'm fairly new, in calender terms to brewing. I have done half a dozen extract recipes and 10 AGs over the last year. My experience seems to be unique. I started AG with a home made 48qt cooler mash tun with a self fabricated braid strainer, 18" SS supply line with end...

    Homebrewtalk.com brewers grow up fast

I have a tendency to jump into everything headfirst, Full speed ahead and Damn the torpedoes! After my first extract kit recipe I formulated (stole and modified!) and put together an original extract recipe. My next batch was AG. I would have, probably, followed this progression with or...

    Calibrating brew pot...

I filled mine a qt. at a time and marked the level with a sharpie. Then I used a dull cold chisel to tap a short line at each qt. and a long line at the gallon points from the inside.

    Blonde Ale Recipe

This was one of my first (it may have been the first) AG brews. My efficiency sucked! I have since hit as high as 75% but still fluctuate primarily between 65-72% as calculated in Beer Smith.
