Heady Topper- Can you clone it?

I totally agree with you but clone just rolls off the tongue so much better. Let's just keep using that but understand it's beer not sheep in a lab and it's almost impossible to produce a completely identical beer on different systems.

Heady Topper- Can you clone it?

I didn't go backwards to find your recipe but have you tried using cryo? I do think a lot of the pros get better quality hops or have better efficiency(probably often both) but I've found cryo helps a lot getting that hop saturated punch that can sometimes be lacking. I try to use some in all my...

have you tried fermenting and serving from the same keg without transferring?

If you're trying to do it all in a corny keg(which I guess is the point of this thread), this is probably your best bet. I used to dry hop this way. I think it's probably mostly fine but there certainly is O2 getting into your beer regardless of what you do. If you're noticing any oxidation...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

I just did a starter with Cosmic Punch that I'm using for my next batch. Omega's website says mash hopping with hops high in precursor thiol compounds may do something so I'm going to do that but I'm sticking with my usual dry hopping SOP, after fermentation and cold crash/transfer off the yeast.

    For the Dads

I have 3 kids(11,8,5) Working from home has really helped ALOT :) I dabbled with overnight mashing but have started doing that regularly my last couple batches. 10 point jump in efficiency has pretty much solidified it as SOP for me going forward. It's really nice breaking up the brew day into...

Hops from Yakima Valley - 1 bag not vacuum sealed

Nobody's getting fired. They're just trying to keep a customer happy and the incremental cost of all those hops is pretty minimal to them. Just take them and appreciate it, and remember they did it for you. One of the reason's I didn't complain about this when it happened to me was because of...

    RO system recommendations?

I got an Apex brand RO system online. Has worked awesome. Gets my water down to under 10 TDS.

Preventing oxidation of Hazy IPA's in Howler/Growler

Yeah capping on air in the headspace is very bad. I'd be surprised if a hazy beer even stayed fresh a couple days

Preventing oxidation of Hazy IPA's in Howler/Growler

Are you making sure to cap on foam too?

Preventing oxidation of Hazy IPA's in Howler/Growler

I can't believe you were blowing out the growlers. Wild I fill growlers now and then to share and find my hazy beers hold up decently if I purge the crap out of the growler and then cap on foam. Hold up decently is still less than a week. I would not trust any hoppy beer in a growler...

Hops from Yakima Valley - 1 bag not vacuum sealed

Yeah they seemed fine to me, no different from the vac sealed packs.

Hops from Yakima Valley - 1 bag not vacuum sealed

It's happened to me. No leak, just not completely vac sealed. I didn't even complain to them about it. I'm pretty sure they flush the bags so didn't seem like that big of a deal to me. I find the part about cold storage(above freezing) as best practice the most interesting part of this thread...

have you tried fermenting and serving from the same keg without transferring?

I think fermenting in kegs greatly improves the quality of my hoppy beers, being able to limit O2 extremely well. My though process was I'd rather have 3.5-4 gallons of great beer than 5 gallons of solid beer.

    Fermenting in a corny keg?

I think there's a very good chance you'll get a clog. Nothing worse than having a clog and having to open up the fermenter totally negating the whole point of fermenting in the keg to limit O2. I would either use the floating dip tube or cut the reg dip tube slightly and put a filter around it...

    Make IPA Clear Again

I have to admit it's gotten a little wacky, and I'm usually in the head car of the haze train. I was at my local bottle shop the other day in the mood for a west coast IPA and I was searching the shelves with all the new stuff, and it was like 80% hazy IPAs. 😆 I did finally find a WCIPA to take home

Great Western Pure Idaho base malt experiences?

I got the Morebeer email too. I was thinking about it but 5 lb quantity almost immediately went on backorder so I guess you weren't the only one thinking about it. All they have now is 1 lb or 55 lb

Double IPA Lawson's Finest Sip of Sunshine Clone

I was a little let down by Sip of Sunshine when I got ahold of some and tried it last year. Solid beer, definitely nowhere near fulfilling the hype. That probably has more to do with how good other craft breweries have gotten than a major criticism of SOS though. Heady came closer to living up...

    Ph meter calibration - readings

Thanks, yeah I always do two point calibration with it but wasn't sure if the variance like that was normal(and I could trust the 2nd reading) or an indication that something funky was going on.

    Ph meter calibration - readings

I got a new ph meter this year, an Apera PH60. Not top of the line but I think it's pretty good. It has 3 point calibration but I typically just do 2 point because I only ordered the 7.0 and 4.0 liquid last time. I calibrate before every batch. Yesterday I did the 7.0 calibration then took a...

    Favorite Pilsner?

I haven't done a ton of pilsners, I think my 6th is carbing up right now. The one I did with Mecca Grade pils and vienna was my favorite so far. Incredibly rich malt flavor
