For Sale RIMS package with TC heater and PID controller

This is a plug and play RIMS package that I originally purchased from brewhardware.com. Works perfectly but I've modified my system extensively and my new configuration couldn't use this setup. 12" SS RIMS tube 1.5" TC I/O ports 1650 W ULWD foldback element (120 V) with integrated TC flange 48"...

    For Sale Blichmann power controller

Gently used Blichmann power controller, 240 V 0-100% linear power control (pulse width modulation method) L6-30 (30A 240V) power connections Note, this unit does not read or control the temperature. It worked great for me connected to my boil kettle and also my hot liquor tank. I've...

    Caramunich in a marzen?

with only 5% caramunich II you should be fine. I've made a Marzen with 3% each of Caramunich I and III (plus 82% Vienna, 8% Munich I) and it was very good. This was based on a recipe from George Fix's Marzen book.

    Altbier - seeking input

Kal's Electric Brewery site has a good altbier recipe that I've brewed a couple of times (actually drinking through a keg of one now). See: https://shop.theelectricbrewery.com/pages/dusseldorf-altbier#Recipe I think if I brewed it again though, I would cut the aromatic malt down by maybe half.

    pretty effective way to advertise

    Shoutout to BrewHardware.com

Makes sense - this guy worked at a local machinist shop. I was surprised they did stainless at all, but they were the only ones in town that did.

Pics (difficult to get the lighting decent for the inside of the kegmenter, but this is what I got of one of the ports) edit: hopefully it's obvious that the last pic is the weld inside my mash tun for the bottom drain - not Bobby's work!

Pictures coming in a sec. One TC port for a sampling valve and another for a thermowell.

    Shoutout to BrewHardware.com

I'm not sure if this is the best location for this post, but I recently ordered and received a new kegmenter fermenter from Bobby_M at BrewHardware.com. What made the experience special was the two 1.5" TC ferrules that Bobby welded onto the side of it. He sent me pictures throughout the...

    Checking Brewfather recommendations

wouldn't open for me - spun for a while and then just brought me to my own recipes Note: the sparge water volume is dictated by your batch size and the strike volume is set by your mash thickness setting. Both are set in your equipment profile

    switching to no sparge

A fly sparge on my system gave me about 85% mash efficiency (as computed by Doug), about 81% as reported by BrewFather. That is typical for me no matter if it's a 1.050 or 1.070 FG beer. I was really surprised though by Doug's simulation - he predicted that going to no sparge on the same brew...

    switching to no sparge

aha! thanks, that makes perfect sense.

    switching to no sparge

Does the simulation you reference above do something extra beyond your mash and lauter simulator excel sheet? With the same info (I think), I get a final OG of 1.0684 with a grain bill of 17.5 lbs and a mash efficiency of 70.17%

    switching to no sparge

    awesome, thanks so much Doug
  17. quantumguy

    switching to no sparge

that makes sense - moisture content values are not even present for a lot of the grains in use (BrewFather)
  18. quantumguy

    switching to no sparge

yes, 6.43 gal was the strike however the actual OG was 1.068

    switching to no sparge

I've been operating a 3-vessel system off and on since 1994 and have always done a fly sparge. No real reason why except that's what everyone did in the way back. Getting rid of difficult variables is a priority now (as well as time sinks), so no sparge seems the obvious way to go since I have...
