Which Can You Brew It recipes do you recommend?

I brewed the Moose Drool recipe and it was a fantastic beer (I've never had the original).

    Cheapest kegs so far

Yes, buried somewhere in your first couple of posts was a recommendation to purchase kegs from CHI. I'm not sure it was a "good deal," but it's appreciated if it was. However, evry subsequent post from someone who purchased from pedalbiker has a reposnse from you about how they should have...

    Cheapest kegs so far

Dude, WE GET IT. You found the best place in the world to buy kegs, and this isn't it. Can you now leave this thread to those of us who have purchased from here, or *gasp* disagree with you and may purchase from here in the future?

Oktoberfest Lager 2633 from 2009 - Would You Use It?

Good points. Ugg. 6L seems like a lot to pitch into a 5.5G batch, no?

Oktoberfest Lager 2633 from 2009 - Would You Use It?

Thanks Yoop. This is (for all practical purposes) my first lager so I'm nervous about the pitching rate. I plan to start with 2L tonight, step up to 4L in 24 hours, and then to 6L in 48 hours. Plus 24 hours to crash would put me into Saturday evening.

Help with "Dirt" Off Flavor - Hefeweizen

FWIW, I re-brewed the same recipe and it came out fantastic. The best it has ever turned out, as a matter of fact. I noticed this time around that my starter was very active, whereas the starter with the problematic batch wasn't overly active. I didn't think anything of it at the time. I...

Oktoberfest Lager 2633 from 2009 - Would You Use It?

I ordered some recipes a couple weeks ago from Brewmaster's Warehouse; plan was to brew an Oktoberfest this Friday. When I pulled the yeast pack out, I see the mfg date is 10/20/2009. I emailed BMW with my concern and they simply said that Wyeast guarantees the packs for 6 months from...

    Cheapest kegs so far

I got 4 a couple weeks ago, three different varieties. Two of them were absolutely filthy, but after some scrubbing in the bathtub, no big deal. Unfortunately, even after replacing all the gaskets, only two of them hold pressure.

Help with "Dirt" Off Flavor - Hefeweizen

I used Kaiser's efficiency spreadsheet; my conversion was right around 100% give or take a few points for error.

Help with "Dirt" Off Flavor - Hefeweizen

You may be right on the water; I've had periodic issues with off-flavors (not this particular one) in the past that I suspected were due to my water. I switched to spring water for a while but didn't like the results. I guess it may be time to learn how to build my own water. I've found some...

Help with "Dirt" Off Flavor - Hefeweizen

I did have a stuck recirc (stirring got it going again without problems). Yeast took right off, though. I used a 1L starter.

    Maierfest lager

It is quite the tasty beer, isn't it? I make no guarantees since I'm not brewing it until later this month, but here's my first attempt. This is based on information from Rogue's website, various threads here, Brewing Classic Styles, and several other random sources. Suggestions welcomed...

Would this thread be better off in a different subforum? Or has no one run into this delicious off-flavor before?

Help with "Dirt" Off Flavor - Hefeweizen

wildwest, I've used this yeast many times in the past without problems and hefes are one of my favorite styles... I think I'm dealing with something else here.

Help with "Dirt" Off Flavor - Hefeweizen

This is a Bavarian hefe which, with the exception of a few little tweaks, I've brewed many times before without issue. I tasted my gravity sample yesterday upon racking it to the keg. It had a very strong aftertaste which I can only describe as "dirt / earth / cigarette ash". I assumed the...
