    Adding Zinc

i think servomyces contains zinc and it is important for yeast health especially if you're reusing your yeast. the brewer at the local micro adds it and i have to ask him for the amount again but i seem to remember it being a small percentage of f@$% all,it was a really tiny amount. i'll ask...

Any builders/contractors that can answer a fairly simple question

you could make a flitch beam- quarterish inch steel sandwiched between timber but to be honest straight steel would be strongest and cheapest, price up an rsj (looks like an I when looking at the end of it),thats the way i'd go if i wanted cheap edit- or throw up another post mid span, one post...

    burner questions

i've done a wee bit of searching and can't find any importers over here but i placed a couple of items in my amazon cart and theres not a great deal of difference in price with shipping, which surprised me a bit. anyway, these are the items- Bayou Classic BG14 Banjo Burner 10 in. x 10 in...

    Wet shaving thread.

i bought 3 old SE razors,2 of which i had professionally sharpened,i've been using it for a little over a week,i've had a few nicks but nothing to cause alarm, its easier on the shaving strokes than i imagined, the nicks came from carelessness moving the razor from one spot on my face to...

    burner questions

which one of those is closest to a banjo burner though? i've looked through threads about burners and without pictures i don't know what they are as they're not that popular down here, the pictures i've put up are the only reasonably priced ones i can find in new zealand, and due to freight costs...

    Fixing undercarbing

i'm not too sure about imperial stout but i thought normal stouts were on the low side for carbonation anyway,is undercarbed for style or your tastes? personally i'd stick with it and adjust on the next batch, but thats just me!

    Carbonation experiment

i don't fine with gelatin myself and i may be wrong here but i don't think you'll remove all the yeast and there will still be more than enough to prime without adding extra. my guess is fine it and then add your priming sugar and be patient. btw by adding yeast you'll still end up with a layer...

    Gravity problems

    Flash boiler

ok,that makes sense, sort of like a mini rims tube with the element replaced by steam injection! originally i pictured the steam being injected directly to the mash via the false bottom or whatever is in your system which is why i thought it must be valved in order to fly sparge. what is the...

    Flash boiler

i mainly want to see how you've attached it to your mashtun to deliver the steam,it may be in a picture but i can't see the majority of them! also, when you were using steam to boil, how did you get the steam to the coil?did you valve the output somewhere?cheers, martin

    Copper Pipe Questions

can't you just run the garden hose from the existing faucet up through the kitchen window or something like that? in my mind it seems to be the easiest/cheapest way

    Mill concept

definitely make your own, i made mine a couple of months ago, i used 3 4inch by 10inch rollers and a motor and pulley wheels i rescued from an old concrete mixer, i used it for the first time last week and i had just short of 7 kilos of grain and it crushed it in 29 seconds! and i did it for...
