    Refractometer question

My older refractometer only displays brix. I've seen the ones that have both brix and SG but on the ones I've seen, the brix scale is much too small for my eye to read. I wouldn't use the SG scale personally as I'm used to brix, plus I have a hydrometer. And my personal experience using the...

    DMS on exoplanets

Funny... I posted about this today. Didn't see yours.. I think this discovery is a good thing. Beer will be our interstellar rapport!

Thoughts on Whirlpool "Convertible" for Keezer Build

UPDATE: I just brought home a 10.2 cubic foot Insigia chest freezer from Best Buy. Got it for 349.99+tax. Saved $130.00 due to Labor Day sale price. Several reviews show people using this model for keezers and they have good feedback. From what I've seen on Craigslist, Nextdoor, FB...

Single Primary with Distribution Manifold or Multiple Secondary Regulators

After all of this, and since it looks like I'll still need a primary, I think I'm now leaning towards a dual body primary with separate distribution bars for the 2 pressures I'm most likely to really wind up using. lol

Single Primary with Distribution Manifold or Multiple Secondary Regulators

Yeah.. And hence the confusion when reading website verbiage that tells you to decide on high-pressure or low-pressure when placing the order. I was going to post a screenshot of this verbiage but they have already updated their website. (Y'all are welcome.. :) ) It now reads as posted below:

Single Primary with Distribution Manifold or Multiple Secondary Regulators

Come to find out, Keg Connection no longer sells their "High-Pressure" secondaries online but their website leads you to believe otherwise. They are still available, just not for purchase online. This (the "bad info" on their site) may not be the case for very long as they mentioned the need...

Single Primary with Distribution Manifold or Multiple Secondary Regulators

FWIW, I'm learning that "high-pressure" secondary's may not be exactly what I think it is. Stay tuned to see if I can actually do what I thought I wanted to do... What do I want to do? I have been thinking I could omit a "primary" regulator attached to the CO2 bottle and feed the bank of...

Single Primary with Distribution Manifold or Multiple Secondary Regulators

I've considered going with a 2-body "bank" of secondaries and a small, 2-3 valve distribution manifold off of each. This would give me that same, 2 pressure capability and save me ~$67. That would buy me a faucet.. :p So far, I think I'm leaning back to my original thought of a bank of 4...

Single Primary with Distribution Manifold or Multiple Secondary Regulators

Thanks for the input @sibelman . Do you have low-pressure secondaries connected to a primary on your CO2 bottle? Or did you go with a high-pressure hose off the bottle, straight to high-pressure secondaries? The only benefit I can see with a Primary regulator is the level indicator. But...

Single Primary with Distribution Manifold or Multiple Secondary Regulators

A topic for another thread but I already use MFL fittings, Oetiker clamps and EVABarrier beer line. I'm on the fence about Duotight though. I see them mentioned a lot but I have no experience with them nor do I know where I'd use them given what I'm accustom to already. I almost pulled the...

Single Primary with Distribution Manifold or Multiple Secondary Regulators

Hey HBT. I'm posting here because I cant find this topic being discussed specifically. I'm planning my next keezer and am sorting out different options. In this case, I'm debating the continued use of a single primary regulator with a distribution manifold -vs- having multiple secondaries for...

Thoughts on Whirlpool "Convertible" for Keezer Build

Thanks for the sanity check. Yes, I have gotten about 10 years out of this thing and who knows how long it had been running as a keezer before I got it. I'll probably save that extra money for taking care of the other things I'll need. I cant really get a bigger freezer though, there's just...

Thoughts on Whirlpool "Convertible" for Keezer Build

Not specifically... But I do feel like I'm on borrowed time. I first posted this thread in 2019: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/threads/keezer-not-cooling-repair-or-replace.668775/ Then, in March of this year I posted this update, ~3 years and 7 months later...

Thoughts on Whirlpool "Convertible" for Keezer Build

Whatever I wind up with, it will be 100% beer purposes. Its the "refrigerator" option that makes me think it might work "better" as a keezer since it could be set for beer temps and not require a separate temp controller.

Thoughts on Whirlpool "Convertible" for Keezer Build

That's how I got the keezer I have now. And I've bought a couple other things that way too but honestly those paths can be a whipping sometimes. Since the keezer I have now is on its way out, has been for a few years now but I keep nursing it along, I'm ready to build one myself. For all the...

Thoughts on Whirlpool "Convertible" for Keezer Build

I agree with that in theory. But I've been told the opposite; by several different people. I'd be interested if anyone out there with "knowledge" in the appliance realm had any input for sure. This thing would basically cost ~$200.00 more than the other chest freezer's I'm eyeing. $200.00...

Thoughts on Whirlpool "Convertible" for Keezer Build

I'm planning to replace my current keezer and an shopping options. One of the things I hear a lot is that chest freezers aren't designed to be used the way we use them for keezers. They are designed to freeze, not refrigerate which is really what we need. Anyway, I have no idea if there is...

Fellowship of the Drink XXIX: Doug E. Fresh(beer) - Every Body Got 2 Get Some

I just went through prior FotD's and saw that shipping hasn't actually been a rule until "FotD XXVII: Welcome to the Club". So while its now a rule to ship, it just ends at that. So as long as you eventually ship, all good... I guess shipping had been previously optional.

    Wort cooldown temps and time????

The key thing is to not kill your yeast by pitching too hot. I prefer to pitch closer to fermentation temp and sometimes even a bit lower so that the yeast is in wort as the things rise to ferm temp. Most of the time my yeast starter has been cold crashed so I can decant starter wort prior to...
