If you boil up 2.5 more gallons of water to bring it to 5 gallons total and dilute it you would get to a gravity of about 1.060 at this point. Liability concerns, provided that the bottle is in exactly the same condition as new I would think that it would hold exactly the same pressure with no issues. However any scratches in the bottle as it ages with create weak spots that could lead to failure at higher pressures. :mug:

With electric you will still need ventilation, but not nearly as much as you would to evacuate all of the gas from a burner...

Is there any clearance under the herms coil for an electric element without it touching?

May be interested do you have any pictures of the interiors? Specifically the HERMS coil and how the recirc fittings are done on the inside?

Just wanted to post a quick warning to prevent anybody else from having what just happened to me happen to them... I was finishing up boiling a starter in an Erlenmeyer Flask on my gas stove, I don't normally boil the stir bar with the wort, my normal process is to carefully slide the bar...

I love my 10 gal Blichmann kettle, enough so that I am considering building the rest of my system with two more of them for the HLT and Mashtun.

Great write up. One quick question, how is the flow and cooling with that pump? I have been looking at significantly larger pumps and this build would be much easier.
