What is up with this weather??

I made a dopplebock two weeks ago expecting the usual freezing cold weather in Upstate NY to ferment in my basement without much effort. It was nice and cold the week up to when I brewed and of course it's been around 50 every day since then... Usually this time of year I can follow the Ron...

    airlock troubles/help

They are like 99 cents at my LHBS. Do you have a homebrew shop near you? Maybe you can fashion something out of a sharpie cap or something... We homebrewers are pretty good MacGuyvers.

is pils malt necessary for doppelbock?

Yes, it's a Celebrator clone. The munich dark I used was 15.5 lovibund so it depends on what's on your bag. The SRM of the original is higher than what I ended up with so you might want to get something with a higher lovibund. I kick off the fermentation on the higher end, about 54 degrees to...

is pils malt necessary for doppelbock?

I can tell the difference from pilsner and pale 2-row malt when I'm mashing, so I'm sure the finished product would be different. I've never made a lager with pale 2-row so I'm not sure how it would turn out, especially if it's a huge part of the recipe. A 10lb bag of Pilsner is like 15 bucks...

    ...another flat beer thread

I've never had bottles take more than 2 weeks at room temp (62-68 in my house) to at least have some sort of carb. I still think you should take a bottle from somewhere random in the cases and see how carbed they are. The sugar must have gone somewhere. I used to do the same thing trying to...

    ...another flat beer thread

How did you add the table sugar? I've had some bottles with almost no carbonation and others with super high carbonation because when I poured my sugar solution I didnt gently stir. Maybe try opening some other bottles and see how they are. If you're dedicated you could open them and use...

    Lagering

What was your fermentation timeframe before bottling? I've never lagered in bottles, always in a carboy in a temp controlled fridge. Once lagering is complete I bottle or keg after that. I dont think it would be a good idea to raise the temp if you haven't already completed the lagering phase...

label software for windows 8 ?!?

I use labeley.com/beer for all my labels. If you have the patience you can make pretty much anything. Doesnt matter what OS you are on.

    All Grain

Shipping is always the killer with 50lb sacks. I've found that for base malts northern brewer has the best price for me shipped. Usually around 35 bucks for 2-row and $12-15 for shipping. Even better than my LHBS, def cheaper than 50lbsack.com too. On occasion midwest has shipping deals that's...

All Grain....What did I get myself into

There is no way that hydrometer reading is right. With that grain bill at 1% efficiency you get 1.001. I dont think it's possible to get 1% even if you dont crush your grains (unless you dipped them in wax...) Make sure that reading is right before you do anything drastic. Something is not...

Keezer Freezer with Audible/Visual Temp Alarms

I bought all my gear from Kegconnection.com and was super happy with their service. I know they have been having a bunch of stuff on sale lately it's probably worth getting that stuff at least.

Keezer Freezer with Audible/Visual Temp Alarms

Yea man I was a little confused when I saw that price. I got mine for $250 about a month ago when they had a sale and an additional 10% off Kenmore appliances. I know Sears changes their price all the time. If you have some patience I would wait. That price is definitely high.

Keezer Freezer with Audible/Visual Temp Alarms

I have the same exact freezer I made into a keezer. The alarm has a switch on back of the freezer you can turn off. The audible alarm is off but when the keezer is on all you see is an amber light on the front which is the "alarm". Makes no difference to me. I love the size of it too. Fits 4...

Where do you guys get bottles?

Buy a couple cases of something. Drink it. Brew. Give away a few 6 packs to friends that drink and mention that you need pop top bottles. Friends will return the free-beer favor and give you their used bottles. The circle of beer economics :rockin: I laugh when I get "bottle deliveries" on my...

    Cross-State Infection

I think that's pretty cool. If it was me, as long as the gravity is dropping, I would leave it. Might end up with some usable wild yeast but from what I've read the odds are pretty low for anything that actually tastes good. Too bad it was MO, that's an expensive experiment... I would give it...

    New to Kegging

Sounds like you need an MFL disconnect. Since you already have a picnic tap you must have the liquid ball lock disconnect. Sounds like your picnic tap is just connected by a barb with a worm drive to the disconnect. You can buy a new liquid disconnect with MFL and an MFL barb for around 7...

Has anyone seen this?! (yeast starter saga)

You bastards! I started watching these and I can't stop! I wish he was still active and trolling. I've never seen anyone so obsessed with head and lacing in my life!
