    German Pils Saphir Pils

Wow LTown! That's a serious honey addition. I guess you can call that Saphir Extra Pils. Let us know how it turns out.

20 mins into my 115th Hopdream IIPA!

The reviews on their website are pretty good. Lots of 4 and 5 stars.

    Samuel Adams Noble Pils

Just bought a sixer of this tonight. I'd crack one open now if I didn't have to take my boy to basketball practice. Guess I'll just have to wait a few hours. I've been in a real pils mood lately so the timing is perfect. Edit: Just finished my first one and I'm not overly impressed. It's...

    What are you drinking now?

A mystery homebrew rescued from the depths of my beer fridge. Very tasty. :cross:

    Maharaja Imperial IPA

Holy hops! Is that over a pound of dry hops? That's a ton even for an 11 gallon batch!

    German Pils Saphir Pils

Very cool. I look forward to your input. Enjoy! :mug:

    simcoe

Yeah, Simcoe hops are very piney to me. I have a buddy that hates them because they taste and smell like cat litter to him. I don't get it.

    Widmer pitch black IPA

I'm enjoying it too, but a highly hopped porter it's not. I do detect the dark malts, but their very much in the background compared to the hops. It has a nice malt backbone to contribute some balance, but the intense chocolate or roasted flavors common in dark beers just isn't there IMO...

    simcoe

Northern Brewer has them for $1.90/oz.

    Widmer pitch black IPA

I've had a few. It's a great IPA but the pitch black part is kinda gimmicky. Not sure if I was blindfolded I would have guessed it was a black IPA. Tastes just like a regular IPA with maybe a slight hint of the dark malts. Very tasty overall. Here's some info from Widmer's website...

    Cara 8?

Yeah I've noticed most suppliers call it Caramel Pils (or Cara 8) but there's a few that mistakenly call it Carapils. It could be that the bag you've got has a label that was put there by the supplier. Many suppliers will buy in bulk and re-package with their own labels. I've used both...

    Cara 8?

It's actually Dingemans Caramel pils I'm pretty sure. The difference between the two is Caramel Pils contributes a slight caramel flavor and color. Carapils contributes very little in the way of color or flavor. Dingemans changed the name of their Caramel Pils to Cara 8...

    New Sierra Nevada Seasonal

Isn't' this supposed to be released this month? I'm hoping to find some soon.

    What did I make?

Did you take a gravity reading with your shiny new hydrometer?
  17. HOOTER

    Cara 8?

Carapils or Caramel Pils? There's a difference. I'd go with Beezer on this one. I think Carapils is less than 2 lovibond whereas Caramel Pils is around 8 lovibond. The two will make very different contributions to your brew.

    What did I make?

You should get decent attenuation with Notty. Only the hydrometer can say for sure. If you had "crazy" fermentation for a day there's a good chance the majority of the the fermentation occurred very quickly. Again, only a hydrometer can give you the info you need.

    Oats and Extract

Agreed. The oats lend a smooth texture and mouthfeel, not fermentables. Steep them along with the crystal.

Is my LHBS completely crazy (Arrogant Bastard recipe)???

That's not awful I suppose. My LHBS charges about $5/pound for dry extract, $4/oz. for hop pellets, and $2-$2.50 per pound for grains. They can't compete with alot of online suppliers, but you pay for convenience (and no shipping charges of course). Your recipe would probably make a decent...
