Honey & Vanilla Cream Ale - Recipe Feedback

Yeah, the more I read the less I think real honey will add much other than ABV. Thanks for the input!

Safale S-04 & Nottingham ale yeast. What one should I try?

I'm doing a split batch right now; half with US-04 and half with Notty. I'll let you know how they compare. I'm using fresh pasteurized cider from my local orchard. OG of 1.050

Honey & Vanilla Cream Ale - Recipe Feedback

Hi All, I'm new to creating recipes, and am looking for some feedback on this concoction. I'm aiming to make a Honey & Vanilla Cream Ale. I want it to be smooth, creamy & flavourful. Hoping the honey won't dry it out... I've used Brewers Friend to get the estimated specs...

Do lower OG beers have less airlock activity?

I would suggest not to gauge progress by airlock activity... if you're using plastic buckets the lid gaskets could be leaking. Lid gaskets on both of my FVs began leaking after the first use; they happily bubbled away on the first batches, but subsequent (successful) fermentations have not had...

Peanut butter as temporary, easy-clean-up, food-safe joint compound...

Teflon tape is not meant to seal joints... the taper of the threads is what seals the fittings. Teflon tape is a lubricant that allows you to tighten the fittings enough to get a seal. It also prevents seizing of fittings so they can be taken apart if needed. Metal-on-metal contact causes a ton...

Recommend features for my ferm. chamber

I was planing to use a latch like you'd find on a guitar case or tool box (don't know the name...) to get some compression. The fan is a great idea too - could wire in parallel to the light. Not sure how often it would get used, but not expensive to include in any case. My last brew I had...

Recommend features for my ferm. chamber

I'm drawing up plans for a DIY fermentation chamber and I'm looking for input on must-have features, and nice-to-have features from those who have already been there! Easier to implement stuff now than to modify it later. My plan so far is to build a wooden box on castors big enough to fit...

Not a bad idea, actually! She's not a beer drinker, but she'd likely go for cider

Help me troubleshoot my beer's flavour!

Thanks, I'll check on my fermenters tonight (brewed another batch last night) and make sure they're in a nice cool spot. I was weary of letting it get too cool because of the kit directions, but the more I read the less I think I need to worry about that. It seems most people have trouble...

Help me troubleshoot my beer's flavour!

In the future I hope to move on to all-grain, but for now I'm happy to try out extract and learn a thing or ten. I'm not sure that this is a 'black' IPA, but I'm no expert. It's described as an SRM 11, ABV 5.5%, IBU 70... and looking at a colour chart in my browser window appears to be in the...

Help me troubleshoot my beer's flavour!

Thanks for the response! This was purely an extract kit - Mr Beer 'Diablo IPA' The temps I'm speaking of were read from a strip thermometer stuck to the side of the fermentor (the 17C the bottles conditioned at is ambient). I have recently acquired some Ale Pails, and will use that to...

Help me troubleshoot my beer's flavour!

Thanks for the reply! Yes, I used the dry yeast pouch that came with the kit. It was average about 21-22C during fermentation. Toward the end I had moved it to the basement which is ~17C ambient.

Help me troubleshoot my beer's flavour!

Hello, I'm looking for some assistance in troubleshooting a funny flavour in my first brew. First up, here's my parameters: Mr. Beer Diablo IPA I pitched in the low 20's Fermented in the Little Brown Keg for 3wks @ low 20's Bottled right from the LBK in PET bottles using Coopers carb drops...

Hi all, My name is Adam and I've gotten into homebrewing over the past couple of months. Signed up here to gather info and advice, and see what other brewers are up to. I started with a Mr. Beer LBK, and have since gotten a couple of Ale Pails along with other various paraphernalia. This...
