    Mini-keg for small batch

Cool. Thanks. So about 10tsb of sugar for 1 gal / 128 oz, condition in the mini-keg for about 2 weeks, hook up the mini-CO2 system, pressurize, chill and away you go?

    Mini-keg for small batch

Has anyone "kegged" a small batch (1 gallon / 128oz) in a mini-keg such as this and used CO2 cartridges to force carbonate vs. bottling and fizz tabs? Is it a viable albeit expensive option? Can the beer be force carbonated with those small CO2 cartridges or are they only good for dispensing...

    Broken Bottle Capper

I wasn't trying to cap screw-on bottles. I didn't finish the batch. I ended up dumping what was left. :(

    Broken Bottle Capper

Well crap. I was halfway through bottling batch #3 and broke my bottle capper. :(

Another noob finishes his first kit

Update... I just opened my first bottle of brew. It doesn't taste too bad, but it has little to no carbonation. :( It was 2 weeks in the primary and to weeks in the bottle at room temp and yes I remembered to put the fizz tabs in when I bottled. Thoughts? Suggestions?

Another noob finishes his first kit

Update... I bottled off my first batch today. I can totally see why folks move to kegging. :p I had hopes that I'd get 2 six packs, but only came out with 9 bottles. There was a lot of spillage. The bottling wand that came with the kit leaks and my siphon technique sucked. But, my...

Anyone have a Genesse 12 Horse Ale Clone Recipe?

My and my buds drank enough Genesse 12 Horse Ale to float an aircraft carrier around "back in the day". :tank: I wouldn't mind seeing a clone recipe too if anyone has one.

Another noob finishes his first kit

My first batch update, 10/26/2016, 1200L-ish: Only put 2 frozen bottles of water into the cooler / fermentation chamber with the carboy last night and this morning, the temp strip on the side of the carboy was back up to the 60-62F range. Noted this morning too that the Kraeusen has...

Another noob finishes his first kit

So fermentation of my first batch seems well under way. Bubble coming out of blow off every 5ish seconds or so. I've got the fermenter in an ice chest with 3 bottles of frozen water that I swap out morning and night. The temp strip on the side of the carboy was in the 60-62F range...

Another noob finishes his first kit

RM-MN, I hear you. And I'm probably not going to jump into BIAB anytime soon. I'm figuring on getting a few 1 gallon extract kits under my belt first, but I was thinking on trying a 1 gallon BIAB recipe for my first BIAB experience, when ever that turns out to be. I figure that will take...

Another noob finishes his first kit

Maybe, but the "cold" tap water where I live isn't all that cold. I'd probably have to do an ice pre-chiller anyways. Actually, I'm thinking besides some bits, my next investment will be a larger brew kettle. My goal in this, such as it is, is to attempt a BIAB all grain clone of a...

Another noob finishes his first kit

Okay, I just finished up brewing my first batch. :ban: It was a 1 gallon White House Honey Ale kit from Northern Brewer. Yes, I now know that Northern Brewer was bought out by "those guys", but please forgive me, I didn't know that when I ordered the kit. A lot more trub than I was...

I would not recommend using water straight out of the Schuylkill River. ;)

    Fermentation Temperature Control Issue

Thanks Petrol. Another noob question... What about... I don't know the right name for them, so I'm going to call them "carboy cozies"... these big insulated bags you can get in various sizes (I'd guess) and put the whole carboy in along with some ice packs that get swapped out daily or...
