If the "cap" on IBU is around 100 then I assume it may be impossible for them to get enough bitterness into the 120 to balance out how much sugar has to go in to get it to 20%.
I also agree though, I found the beer near undrinkable when we got one for a friends bachelor party.
He's more than entitled to that beer. He probably doesn't understand what the big deal is. And like a dozen other people have commented on you're very lucky to have a father who will/can try your beer and enjoy it on top of that. Someday you'll be wishing you could give him another beer to try...
Terrible. I can drink about a half of one if I've had 3 or 4 very hoppy beers beforehand and kinda kill my taste. I think I'm going to keep them around and open one up every time I consider buying Nottingham yeast.
My messed up batch was also edwort's haus pale ale. Our resulting beers could be twins. Exact same color and clarity. I hate to tell you but a few weeks in the bottle didn't do much to improve mine.

I think it's probably more that you're implying that almost everyone uses glass carboys which is definitely not the case. I use almost all plastic fermenters and only bust out glass carboys for certain processes or wines.
