If you hit a higher gravity that beersmith called for then your efficiency setting is off. Use the efficiency calculator on brewers friend and put it back into beer smith... it should give you a better idea of what the recipe should be and you can adjust for next time.

After a few uses I too am realizing I have to recirculate to cool. I put a valve on my water out and I need another one on my wort out and I should be set. Last time I used it I cooled 6 gals in about 30 mins.

Ok. Here's an update. I bought a false bottom from brew international. Their price was awesome and it shipped quick and was great quality. A+. I did notice that the package label said learntobrew.com. So I checked them out and they also had a great price on a chugger pump which they had sent me...
I used a coffee grinder to break up some black patent a few months ago. Worked very well. Good idea with the pasta roller, don't think SWMBO would approve though.

thanks, that is really good info that I didnt know about. I knew about how mash temps effect the body, but didnt kno about how they effect fermentable vs non fermentable sugars. Looks like i have some more reading to do... I have been looking around at different recipe software, but I dont think...
