failing to hit final gravity levels

I've experienced with wyeast 1028, 1098, and 1056. I'm having some difficulty bumping the temp up late in the primary fermenting stage, which may be causing the yeast to drop out early. I usually wrap with a blanket and use a heating pad, or wet towel and fan when I need the temp to stay down...

failing to hit final gravity levels

Hey HBT, got a fairly complex question here. I've completed 10 brews now. Mostly IPA's, APAs, (2) porters, and one Hefe. I'm hitting great flavor combinations, and that's not main concern. But I am noticing a bit of a trend, that my brews are not attenuating to my desired FG's. I've only had...

Hey HBT, tomorrow afternoon im brewing my first Wheat beer, and today i made up a 2L starter using Wyeast 3068. Ive made multiple starters in the past, but never worked with German Yeast Strands. I pitched the starter in an about 70 degree yeast starter, at about 2:45 this afternoon on a...

Black IPA, Maris Otter or Pale 2 Row

So I'm brewing my first black IPA/ Cascadian Ale (call it what you want) this weekend. My grain bill is fairly simple, 90 percent pale malt, 5 percent Carafa III, and 5 percent Caramunich. I plan on bittering with Chinook, and aroma, flavor and dry hopping with Simcoe and falconers flight. My...

    Questions about racking to secondary

Couple more items FYI, I used London Dry wyeast 1318, 6 gallon batch, 16lb pale 2 row, 1 lb crystal 15, mashed at 151 for 90 minutes and boiled for 90 min. Used Centennial, Columbus and Amarillo hops in the boil. Plan on dry hopping with Centennial and Citra. Sent from my SCH-I535 using...

    Questions about racking to secondary

Hey HBT, I brewed a Hugh gravity IPA, 1.074. Today is day 8 in the primary, I just took a gravity reading, and the beer is at 1.020, I was hoping to get down to 1.013-2. I am still getting some action in my airlock, about 12 bubbles per minute, however I do know that this isn't the most...

    Battling cold fermentation temps

ok, thank you for the quick replies. Starting out we have been brewing pales, IPA's and DIPAs to get our technique down. Does this temp range usually for these recipe types (generally speaking)?
