    EZ Water Calculator 3.0

Has anyone else noticed that the distilled water pH of a specific grain from a specific manufacturer can change from bag to bag? I do not yet have a mill and purchase/grind my grains at my LHBS for each batch. I have noticed that the distilled water pH is different everytime I check a specific...

Carbonation Levels Kegging - Need Help

I know I don't want 2.8. That is the level of the light/lite beers and is way to high for me on my dunkel. I am pretty good with figuring out carbonation levels as I tend to like my beers on the lower side and usually check for the levels of the craft brews I drink is provided on their...

Metallic/harsh taste to force carbed Pale Ale

I had a metallic taste on first use of a used keg. It was very noticable at first and subsided after about 2 weeks of drinking off of it. Not sure the cause but maybe yours will die down as mine did. How did you clean/sanitize the keg prior to using?

Carbonation Levels Kegging - Need Help

So I am fairly new to kegging and have a question. A quick rundown of my set up is a keezer, temp controlled with a ranco at +/- 1 degree set to 40 F. I transfer my beers to the keg at 40F prior to hooking the gas up to it. My issue, as the title states, is getting the carbonation level...

    Perl 525SS Leaks at bonnet

So I disassembled both taps, sprayed the keg lube and reasembled. It is amazing the difference. It slides open and closes really easily. I can now see why people have noted that their Perl taps sometimes open up on their own if you have a heavy tap handle. The wind could literally blow the...

    Perl 525SS Leaks at bonnet

Great info to try, thx. I thought about using keg lube and was going to try that tonight. I was thinking about the design and if the upper ball is dry enough, it could potentially pull the oring out of the seat when moving. I also thought that tightening the bonnet the way I was doing it...

    Perl 525SS Leaks at bonnet

I think it is. I inspect it everytime I have to disassemble it and make sure it's not out of seat. When I do reassemble it, it works fine until I have a span of no pulls from the tap and then go back to it.

    Perl 525SS Leaks at bonnet

No white gaskets anywhere. The product is only 3 months old so gaskets should be fine. The sealing gaskets for this area are both the same size. One sits in a seat inside the faucet housing and the other rests on top of the bearing cup. reference #2 on this website Faucet Replacement Parts...

    Perl 525SS Leaks at bonnet

I just bought 2 of these faucets at farmhousebrewingsupply.com and have been having a reoccuring problem that I cannot seem to resolve. If a beer is not drawn from the facuet for several days, it will leak out of the bonnet immediately after I finish pouring a beer. The only way to get it to...

    EZ Water Calculator 3.0

Given the tight range of "ideal pH" being 5.4-5.6, a .1 swing is...well I guess a noticable difference. I would think it might be higher. I might try a 1:1 and 2:1 side by side next time I pick a grain for testing. Oh, I do calibrate my meter before using to the 4.01 solution. It's the HM...

    EZ Water Calculator 3.0

I would imagine that the water to grist ratio does play with the pH. A tight 1:1 qt per lbs should yield a significantly lower pH than a 2:1. My ratio was 1.4:1 and my mash temp was all over b/t 140 and 160. I did a full hour to replicate a full mash although it was probably unnecessary...

    EZ Water Calculator 3.0

I just want to make sure but are you saying that "Base Malt - Other" is briess's carapils malt? I did distilled water mashes for Weyerman Pale Wheat - 5.78, Weyerman Pilsner - 5.62, Weyerman Munich II - 5.33, and Crisp Maris Otter - 5.60. My pH meter is (or says it is) accurate to +/- .01...

    EZ Water Calculator 3.0

If I wanted to test the distilled water pH of the specific grains I use, what water to grist ratio should I use? I would think that it would be my mash water to grist ratio but I did not want to assume. Thanks for the help. Oh, also. Do rice hulls affect pH?

    EZ Water Calculator 2.0

I did that. The thing is, when you add the lbs of roasted grain, the pH increases. When you delete it, it decreases. That doesn't make sense. Also, if you play around with the crystal lbs you'll notice that there is no change to the pH unless you have a quantity of roasted grains in there...

    EZ Water Calculator 2.0

I haven't been able to get this spreadsheet to pencil out for me. I did a couple of stove top 1/4 size mashes of various grist bills and I am getting pH numbers higher sometimes and lower others. I don't understand why the projected pH calculation goes up when you add a quantity into the...
