Personally nothing touches my beer except silicone or stainless steel. I wouldn't put some cheapo aluminum trinket in my keg, period.
People do, but you're putting your beer in contact with the yeast in trub permanently.
I'm using a full-size all-fridge kegerator, with shelves 24" wide. I removed the glass ones and am using 1/2" plywood, but I'm nervous about putting two full corny kegs on them. I've done two full 2.5 gal kegs and I'm nervous doubling that weight.
The fridge has those little notches on the...
I'm thinking of switching to RO water for homebrewing (long story), but I figure I need to add things to the water to make it best for brewing. What do I need to do? Is there a rule of thumb here with this? Thanks.
Thanks! A bit pricey considering what I paid for my 20 and 30 liter fermenters, but I'm glad the option is there!
I found this:

But I'm struggling to understand why in the world it's chrome instead of stainless steel :mad...
The Speidel fermenters are great. HDPE, large top opening for easy cleaning, handles, transparent enough to easily see levels inside, etc.
But the spigot is not great. I've had them leak, there's no tubing size that fits over the end, and it is positioned so low that they grab trub and...
I have a small keg system (4 x 2.5 gallon kegs) an am thinking about making a large 5-gallon batch of fruit cider. The recipe calls for adding the fruit (few pounds of berries, previously frozen) for about a week before kegging.
Would it be a bad idea to do the recipe, and pull HALF the...
I'm looking to build a cheap sparge water heater from a stainless vessel (probably iced tea dispenser) and a 120v heating element. I don't want to drill holes so I'm hoping someone has seen an immersion heating element like the pic I've attached (that's from Australia) - I especially like how...
If you want to put a lid on it and have a truly closed system, that leaves you with two choices, plate chiller or counterflow. If you moderate your wort flow rate (slower is better so it's in contact with the cold longer) either work great. Both are used by zillions of brewers, large and...
I've got a kegerator setup utilizing Perlick 630SS taps, and I've got a growler filler insert and tubing for it.
But it always makes a huge mess and I feel like the beer is a bit flatter when I'm serving it.
What are the tips and tricks here? Add more carbonation a week before filling...
