Is this normal or a sign of infection?

It's my fourth brew and first in several months. I brewed this five days ago and its been fermenting nicely. I noticed a bunch of crap along ths sides though - this is probably normal but still not sure. I don't necessarily remember seeing this before during fermentation, but it does seem like...

    Official Broken Hydrometer Count

+1 = 390 When I set it on top of the bucket I knew it was a bad idea and would roll off if I bumped into it....well I ignred that voice in my head.

Questions regarding Beersmith, converting all grain recipe to extract

Thanks for the response to my original question and the recipe. That recipe is a lot simpler. Is that recipe for a partial boil? This will be my thrid batch and I'm doing full boils - just curious if I need to reduce the bittering hops at all.

Questions regarding Beersmith, converting all grain recipe to extract

I've been searching for a APA extract recipe to make with little success. I found a recipe on HBT that got great reviews but it's all grain. Since I didn't come across an extract recipe (mostly just people posting recipes they made and asking if they looked good) I thought I'd try to convert...

    Is this fermentation? Pics included

Well, this thread gave me relief, and I picked up a new acronym. I'd seen that before, but never looked it up. Yes, no homebrew soon, but in a couple of months, football + homebrew....mmmmmm.

    Is this fermentation? Pics included

I'm 36 hours in with zero airlock activity. I know there's a sticky at the top explaining it can take 72 hrs, I know Revvy has a well-written response to those like me who start to freak out a bit at the sign of no airlock activity, but I can't help but worry. First homebrew and realize in...

    God I love...

I was doing my first home brew Sunday night and the wife walked up with a bad look on her face and said "that smells awful" and walked off. I guess it's a good thing I was brewing outside.

Brewed first batch last night - obervations and questions

Thanks - I've seen that before but forgot about the temperatrue making a difference. My temp was likely too high, though the link suggests my OG was even higher than what I measured, so I may be evn further off than I thought. It was an extract. I steeped 24oz of grain 25 minutes before bringin...

Brewed first batch last night - obervations and questions

I brewed the AHS Cream Ale last night. Baby #2 is coming Friday so I got the first batch in just in time. I'm anxious to do a pale ale or IPA...hopefully I can find the time soon. So it was an enjoyable process. After doing a batch, I think a lot of what I'm reading will start connect...

Just brewed AHS Cream Ale - not sure what fermentation temp should be

The cream ale came with a choice of a White Labs Cream Ale Blend WLP080, White Labs California Ale V WLP051, Wyeast American Ale II, or the Nottingham. When searching for something for my first brew, I came across a couple posts on cream ale where people talked about how much they liked the...

Just brewed AHS Cream Ale - not sure what fermentation temp should be

Title says it all - just finished brewing and realized I don't know the ideal fermentation temp. I've read through the instructions but the only temperature references I see are for how much to cool the wort (to 80 degrees before adding cool water on a partial boil), and references to the liquid...
