    Tangential inlet worth it?

Is a welded tangential inlet drastically better at creating a whirlpool than using an orthogonal side port with a bent tube (like a pick up tube)?

    Fixing head retention after kegging

Yes. I used 1 lbs of Quaker oats that were from the grocery store. Is that an issue?! I thought I had read that was fine to do. Any way to fix it now?

    Fixing head retention after kegging

I made and kegged an oatmeal stout and it pours with a nice head. Unfortunately the head disappears in under a minute. I'm guessing I had some residual soap in the keg... Haven't had this happen before. Is there anything that can be added to fix this? Any tricks to try?

Is it possible to buy large silicone rubber bands?

Does anyone know where I can buy a rubber band that is 2 inches wide and easily stretchable to go around the lid of an 8 qt stainless steel pot? I am looking for something made of silicone. The only thing I have found that works so far is a latex resistance band for exercising. I am looking to...

cold crash in fermentor or keg?

I've tried searching and reading up on this, but I can't really find the discussion or answers I'm looking for. I'm trying to decide which is better... crashing in the fermenter and transferring cold beer into the keg, or transferring the beer warm. On one hand, I can see having the beer...

    10 / 15 / 20 gal configuration for 5 and 10 gal batches

This the equipment they suggest for brewing either 5 gal batches or 10 gal batches. Under the FAQ tab, they answer the question "CAN I BREW MULTIPLE BATCH SIZES?" So if you want 3 kettles that allow you to brew both 5 and 10 gal batches, they recommend a 10, 15, 20 setup. To answer my own...

    10 / 15 / 20 gal configuration for 5 and 10 gal batches

Hey all, I'm trying to decide on some new equipment and am now thinking I should purchase the flexibility to do 10 gal batches in case I ever want to. What do you all think? If I interpret their site correctly, Blichmann suggests using a 10, 15, and 20 gal vessel combination. For 5...

Trying to decide on some new equipment

I looked at those chapmans too... the only reason I thought about going Ss infusion was so it would match the kettle :) I feel lame even typing that! I've always been more of a function over form guy, but now that I have the space and money I want to have something that looks nice too!

Trying to decide on some new equipment

You're absolutely right! I need to look into this... Temp control with electric has to be a lot easier than gas... Thanks for reminding me of this option.

Trying to decide on some new equipment

    1) true... I guess I'm thinking that the bag would mainly be an easy way to get the grain out and start the boil. I guess I'm thinking the false bottom would keep my grain/bag from scorching if/when I hit it with some heat during the mash? 2) for the HLT I was planning on using one of the 5...

Trying to decide on some new equipment

I've lived in a 2 bedroom apartment in LA for the last 5 years, and just moved to Georgia where I now own a nice big home with a basement and a garage. Now that I have some more space, I'd like to move from my 2.5 gal batches to proper 5 gal batches I've already addressed my biggest need...

    A sour version of hell

Two weeks ago I brewed the ordinary bitter recipe out of BCS and I was just about to bottle it, but it tasted god awful... super sour. It also had this really weird looking film on it (see pic). I've brewed about 20 batches using roughly the same technique, and only once did I have a...

    Help quick! please...

I freeze a gallon of store bought spring water in two plastic rectangular containers (ziploc) a day or two before I brew... I haven't had any problems yet with contamination. If I ever do, I guess I'll start boiling it before hand. My beers also don't typically last much longer than a month or...

    Help quick! please...

Wort tasted good! I'm excited to try the final product. Thanks for the help. Also, to clear up the issue, I do BIAB... 2.5 gal batches (so half the BCS recipe ingredients). I just slowly added in water during the boil to make sure I finished at 2 gal in the end... it ended up being about 2...
